Well, in cs 1.6 I got killed twice with a HE being thrown directly at my
head (before blowing up), and once with a flashbang. I could not believe
that, and my fellow players laughed and said that I was probably killed by
something else.
Now I searched the old logs for a flashbang kill, and there it was :)
Of course I can't confirm the HE kills.

Afaik it's a feature that if you get hit it causes damage.

I also think If you get hit by a barrel on dust from someone throwing an he
grenade at it that can also cause damage.

Its all about the realism!!!

noticed that if you tag someone directly with a FB or smoke, it'll
show a blood splash.  I didn't think it did damage though...  How cool

Flashbangs I think do 1-2 damage if they go off directly below a player.
So if the player is extremely low on health yeah a FB will kill him.

Yup. Smoke grenades do as well (smokegrenade_projectile).
They take 1ap or 1hp off if you're physically hit by them.
