Does steam log when it autoupdates at all? I've not noticed it, but it would be extremely useful if steam wrote to a changelog or a updatelog file saying that on $date:$time hl engine successfully update to version $vernum or whatever so we don't have to kill the server, run steam manually and watch it struggle along, then say its already up to date. Also do the passwords on linux servers expire from being stored after x days, as last time there was an update I had to manually update all my servers as it didn't have the email/password stored, negating the use of autoupdate really.. Re: [hlds_linux] Steam update: engine binaries
Just log the output of hlds_run to a file to check what it downloads. Passwords don't expire BUT if you use an account on another machine it will invalidate the password on the first machine (so use 1 account per machine). If you run with -autoupdate then all you will ever need to do is issue an rcon quit to get the update (and not even this for mandatory updates). john wrote: On Thu, 20 Nov 2003, Alfred Reynolds wrote: We have released an updated dedicated server engine binary. Re: [hlds_linux] Steam update: engine binaries
thx for the security update. just a thought, there was tons of non-patched 3.1.1.1 server, even 3.1.1.0 out there. could won servers stop auth with the outdated and force them upgrade with the latest patches? the non-patched server also affect the reputation on hosting Valve product, as some lanshop operator came across this recently, e.g. DoS issues, security ... etc. chris Alfred Reynolds wrote: We have released an updated dedicated server engine binary. Re: [hlds_linux] Steam update: engine binaries
Alfred actually mentioned this issue two months ago - if you want to check the archives for the history, you can find it in the hlds_linux archive, the thread with the subject cs_i386.so compilation (Alfred's post was made on the 27th of Sep). I guess Intel are slow to respond - must be frustrating when you're reliant on someone else to help make your product or service work properly! :) -- trog Original Message From: Vernon Riley [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, November 21, 2003 2:22 PM Subject: RE: [hlds_linux] Steam update: engine binaries Yay!
