I have tried several times removing the clientblob (rm -rf ~/.steam/ClientRegistry.blob) and also tried running steam on a base install from another default setup I did yesterday (with which I was able to create an account), and as an upgrade to an existing server, and still the same. Note its slightly different to the error in the faq and that faq 'fix' doesnt work. I'm guessing the servers are just overloaded. Kinda annoying coz means all my servers gonna have to stay 1.5.....
