[hlds_linux] vac going into insecure mode, please fix.

2006-01-03 Thread John Saucier

Everyday it seems I have to restart my server because its in insecure mode.
I'd like to see this issue resolved. I understand that sometimes the server
is unable to contact the auth server. This could obviously be as simple as a
timeout. That's fine.

But why not make it so that the server doesn't need to be restarted to be
put in secure mode? Why not have the server contact the auth servers on
mapchange as well? That way if the server is in insecure mode it could
contact the server and be put back into secure mode. And/or why not just
have the server check that its in secure mode every 5 minutes or give us a
cvar to allow us to check the auth server status every x amount of time if
the server is in insecure mode?

I know that vac runs as a seperate process, so why is it not possible to
have it just stop the process and start it again if it does not connect to
the auth server and reconnect every 60 seconds until its been authenticated
into secure mode.

I personally don't think that anti-cheat has been that effective from anyone
but vac has slowed down the cheaters quite a bit and it seems like when our
server is put into insecure mode we begin to see them login like its some
kind of invite.

The process for getting vac back on right now its restart the server. This
is completely ridiculous. I run a 32 player server that is nearly full all
the time. And sometimes it will just randomly go into insecure mode. That
means I have to restart the server. The other day I had to restart it three
times to get vac back on. There needs to be a better way.

Thanks

I agree. We are having the same difficulties with this problem. We are
running
15 CS servers, which are combined 90% filled most of the time. It's easy
to detect if one of the servers is insecure, just by listening to the
cheater
reports on irc or on our website. They are kinda swarming the servers at
that
time.

Please make this a check when changing map, for servers running secure or
make it a cvar.
