RE: [hlds_linux] [OT (Somewhat)] New forms of banning
You can be very creative in your responses to suspected cheaters or rulebreakers in general for your particular server. Clearly, this proves that banning and llamas aren't the only methods of handling them! How about binding their fire key to /kill? How about all their keys to various sayings like I ticked off the admin all I got was my controls rebound and this stupid t-shirt! or I didn't follow the rules and look at me! I'm a zero! or maybe just I'm really sorry admin. I don't mean to be a rulebreaker, but the devil made me do it! Just silly stuff for fun. ;) I can't guarantee it's effectiveness, but it's quite humorous if not abused. =) -Nick -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Joshua Gardiner Sent: Monday, September 30, 2002 11:35 AM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: [hlds_linux] [OT (Somewhat)] New forms of banning So heres something new I've never seen.. See, Sure, as neat at that is.. I acctaully have some what of an issue with it. Unless VAC calls someone a h4x, I give them the benefit. Given, I only use my server for clan matches so I'm not faced with the majority of hackers like the rest of you. But to me, changing someones config is just too much. Then again, if they really are hacking and ruining the game for others... maybe it isn't enough. When you rebind their commands, does it save to their config file? If it does then I feel sorry for those who have been hti with this and wrongly accused of cheating. :o Joshua -Original Message- From: Nick McLaren [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, September 30, 2002 8:48 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [hlds_linux] [OT (Somewhat)] New forms of banning You can be very creative in your responses to suspected cheaters or rulebreakers in general for your particular server. It's not very amusing if that person doesn't have their config set as read-only and doesn't know how to put all that sillyness back to normal. Honestly, this was one of the main reasons I dislike admin mod. - Original Message - From: Nick McLaren [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, September 30, 2002 10:48 AM Subject: RE: [hlds_linux] [OT (Somewhat)] New forms of banning You can be very creative in your responses to suspected cheaters or rulebreakers in general for your particular server. RE: [hlds_linux] [OT (Somewhat)] New forms of banning
Yes it would write to their config.cfg file. Honestly, I've never used these ideas myself. As a matter of fact, I just thought of them! ;) As with all admin retaliation tactics, they are only really effective in the hands of a good admin and can be subject to abuse in the hands of a bad one. Personally, I find AdminMOD's admin_slay and admin_slap commands to do the trick for me, which doesn't effect the client's config but get's the point across that I'm not very pleased with the player's behavior. But what I do vs. what everybody else does on their servers may be vastly different. Realistically, there are actually legal privacy issues relating to modifying the connecting players config just like it would be if you were to enter their computer through other means and make changes to files or data in memory. It's just another one of those cases that just because you can doesn't mean you should. I still think it would be funny on some of the internet tough guys out there, but I would never do it for the reasons I've already stated. =) -Nick -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Joshua Gardiner Sent: Monday, September 30, 2002 11:53 AM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: [hlds_linux] [OT (Somewhat)] New forms of banning See, Sure, as neat at that is.. Re: [hlds_linux] [OT (Somewhat)] New forms of banning
You'll need some kind of metamod plugin with execclient access. Admin Mod does it, HLGuard does it (this is how the file checks use to go). MoD, Always @ your service. - Original Message - From: Brian A. People who don't have admin mod installed but do have HLGuard can also issue client side commands. Syntax Rcon hlg_clexec #userid command IE Rcon hlg_clexec #12 bind mouse1 +kill Or Rcon hlg_clexec * kill *=all players Rcon hlg_clexec #12 bind mouse1 say I'm a loser Etc etc -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Brian A.
