Is not steam server limited to one per box at this time? Im guessing full
steam server version will allow multiple accounts per box?

The dedicated server will NOT require a cd-key to use. As always, the
dedicated server will be a free download (but it will still be using
Steam).

2003-08-28 Thread Alfred Reynolds
The current beta (and the final release) is not limited in this way. The
only limitation that you can only use a particular steam account on one
machine at a time (so you should create a dedicated server account per
machine, or use the steam binary on a single server and write your own
management tools).

Hi Alfred

So I have to create an account pr. dedicated server? Are you going to
make 'site accounts' for the bigger hosting companies? I'd hate to make
and maintain 120+ machine accounts.
How about special site-wide accounts we can request personally from
you/Valve.

Another post in the thread in the steam forums from Erik Johnson quotes
this as an unavoidable problem. So it doesn't look like there will be
a

On the plus side, might encourage to me rewrite my ban system and
integrate it with a web interface and mysql backend or something. Anyone
use a system like this at the mo, or know where I can get one (too lazy
to
write one)?

Not per server, per machine. As a hosting company it may be easier for you
to run steam on one server and then you can work out how to propagate any
updates it receives (as the linux version of steam simply provides you with
files on disk from which you run the server as usual).
