A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories. This draft is a work item of the Home Networking WG of the IETF. Title : Simple Provisioning of Public Names for Residential Networks Authors : Daniel Migault Ralf Weber Michael Richardson Ray Hunter Filename: draft-ietf-homenet-front-end-naming-delegation-27.txt Pages : 42 Date: 2023-02-08 Abstract: Home network owners may have devices or services hosted on their home network that they wish to access from the Internet (i.e., from a network outside of the home network). Home networks are increasingly numbered using IPv6 addresses, which in principle makes this access simpler, but their access from the Internet requires the names and IP addresses of these devices and services to be made available in the public DNS. This document describes how an Home Naming Authority (NHA) instructs the outsourced infrastructure to publish these pieces of information in the public DNS. The names and IP addresses of the home network are set in the Public Homenet Zone by the Homenet Naming Authority (HNA), which in turn instructs an outsourced infrastructure to publish the zone on behalf of the home network owner. Title : Simple Provisioning of Public Names for Residential Networks Authors : Daniel Migault Ralf Weber Michael Richardson Ray Hunter Filename: draft-ietf-homenet-front-end-naming-delegation-15.txt Pages : 38 Date: 2021-05-13 Abstract: Home owners often have IPv6 devices that they wish to access over the Internet using names. Outsourcing the DNS servers to a DNS infrastructure protects against possible DDoS attacks as well as sudden renumbering of the home network. It has been possible to register and populate a DNS Zone with names since DNS became a thing, but it has been an activity typically reserved for experts. This document automates the process through creation of a Homenet Naming Authority (HNA), whose responsibility is to select, sign and publish names to a set of publicly visible servers. This document describes the mechanism that enables the HNA to outsource the naming service to the DNS Outsourcing Infrastructure (DOI) via a Distribution Manager (DM). A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories. This draft is a work item of the Home Networking of the IETF. Title : DHCPv6 Options for Homenet Naming Architecture Authors : Daniel Migault Tomek Mrugalski Chris Griffiths Ralf Weber Wouter Cloetens Filename: draft-ietf-homenet-naming-architecture-dhc-options-04.txt Pages : 28 Date: 2016-08-15 Abstract: Home network devices are usually constrained devices with reduced network and CPU capabilities. As such, a home network device exposing the authoritative naming service for its home network on the Internet may become vulnerable to resource exhaustion attacks. One way to avoid exposing these devices is to outsource the authoritative service to a third party, e.g. ISP. The Homenet Naming Authority (HNA) is the designated device in charge of outsourcing the service to a third party, which requires setting up an architecture. Such settings may be inappropriate for most end users. This document defines DHCPv6 options so any agnostic HNA can automatically proceed to the appropriate configuration and outsource the authoritative naming service for the home network. In most cases, the outsourcing mechanism is transparent for the end user. Title : Homenet Routing Consensus Call Authors : Ray Bellis Mark Townsley Filename: draft-ietf-homenet-routing-consensus-call-01.txt Pages : 4 Date: 2016-01-21 Abstract: In order to support arbitrary network topologies and multi-homing the IETF Homenet Architecture [RFC7368] requires that a routing protocol operates inside each home network. For interoperability reasons it is necessary for there be a single "mandatory to implement" routing protocol. With the Homenet Working Group unable to reach clear consensus on which protocol that should be the Working Group Chairs (with the support of the Internet Area Director) declared rough consensus that the chosen protocol is BABEL [RFC6126]. Title : Homenet Routing Consensus Call Authors : Ray Bellis Mark Townsley Filename: draft-ietf-homenet-routing-consensus-call-00.txt Pages : 4 Date: 2015-11-18 Abstract: In order to support arbitrary network topologies and multi-homing the IETF Homenet Architecture [RFC7368] requires that a routing protocol operates inside each home network. A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories. This draft is a work item of the Home Networking Working Group of the IETF. Title : DHCPv6 Options for Homenet Naming Architecture Authors : Daniel Migault Tomek Mrugalski Chris Griffiths Ralf Weber Wouter Cloetens Filename: draft-ietf-homenet-naming-architecture-dhc-options-03.txt Pages : 28 Date: 2015-10-19 Abstract: Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) devices are usually constrained devices with reduced network and CPU capabilities. As such, a CPE exposing the authoritative naming service for its home network on the Internet may become vulnerable to resource exhaustion attacks. One way to avoid exposing CPE is to outsource the authoritative service to a third party, e.g. ISP. Such an outsource requires setting up an architecture which may be inappropriate for most end users. This document defines DHCPv6 options so any agnostic CPE can automatically proceed to the appropriate configuration and outsource the authoritative naming service for the home network. In most cases, the outsourcing mechanism is transparent for the end user. Title : Outsourcing Home Network Authoritative Naming Service Authors : Daniel Migault Ralf Weber Ray Hunter Chris Griffiths Wouter Cloetens Filename: draft-ietf-homenet-front-end-naming-delegation-04.txt Pages : 35 Date: 2015-09-23 Abstract: RFC7368 'IPv6 Home Networking Architecture Principles' section 3.7 describes architecture principles related to naming and service discovery in residential home networks. Customer Edge Routers and other Customer Premises Equipment (CPEs) are designed to provide IP connectivity to home networks. Most CPEs assign IP addresses to the nodes of the home network which makes them good candidates for hosting the naming service. IPv6 provides global connectivity, and nodes from the home network will be reachable from the global Internet. As a result, the naming service is expected to be exposed on the Internet. However, CPEs have not been designed to host such a naming service exposed on the Internet. Running a naming service visible on the Internet may expose the CPEs to resource exhaustion and other attacks, which could make the home network unreachable, and most probably would also affect the internal communications of the home network. In addition, regular end users may not understand, or possess the necessary skills to be able to perform, DNSSEC management and configuration. Misconfiguration may also result in naming service disruption, thus these end users may prefer to rely on third party name service providers. Title : Distributed Prefix Assignment Algorithm Authors : Pierre Pfister Benjamin Paterson Jari Arkko Filename: draft-ietf-homenet-prefix-assignment-06.txt Pages : 19 Date: 2015-05-27 Abstract: This document specifies a distributed algorithm for automatic prefix assignment. Given a set of delegated prefixes, it ensures that at most one prefix is assigned from each delegated prefix to each link. Nodes may assign available prefixes to the links they are directly connected to, or for other private purposes. The algorithm eventually converges and ensures that all assigned prefixes do not overlap. A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories. This draft is a work item of the Home Networking Working Group of the IETF. Title : DHCP Options for Homenet Naming Architecture Authors : Daniel Migault Wouter Cloetens Chris Griffiths Ralf Weber Filename: draft-ietf-homenet-naming-architecture-dhc-options-02.txt Pages : 28 Date: 2015-05-19 Abstract: CPEs are usually constraint devices with reduced network and CPU capacities. As such, a CPE hosting on the Internet the authoritative naming service for its home network may become vulnerable to resource exhaustion attacks. One way to avoid exposing CPE is to outsource the authoritative service to a third party. This third party can be the ISP or any other independent third party. Outsourcing the authoritative naming service to a third party requires setting up an architecture which may be unappropriated for most end users. To leverage this issue, this document proposes DHCP Options so any agnostic CPE can automatically proceed to the appropriated configuration and outsource the authoritative naming service for the home network. This document shows that in most cases, these DHCP Options make outsourcing to a third party (be it the ISP or any ISP independent service provider) transparent for the end user. [homenet] I-D Action: draft-ietf-homenet-front-end-naming-delegation-02.txt
A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories. This draft is a work item of the Home Networking Working Group of the IETF. Title : Outsourcing Home Network Authoritative Naming Service Authors : Daniel Migault Wouter Cloetens Chris Griffiths Ralf Weber Filename: draft-ietf-homenet-front-end-naming-delegation-02.txt Pages : 33 Date: 2015-05-04 Abstract: CPEs are designed to provide IP connectivity to home networks. Most CPEs assign IP addresses to the nodes of the home network which makes it a good candidate for hosting the naming service. With IPv6, the naming service makes nodes reachable from the home network as well as from the Internet. However, CPEs have not been designed to host such a naming service exposed on the Internet. This may expose the CPEs to resource exhaustion which would make the home network unreachable, and most probably would also affect the home network inner communications. In addition, DNSSEC management and configuration may not be well understood or mastered by regular end users. Misconfiguration may also result in naming service disruption, thus these end users may prefer to rely on third party naming providers. This document describes a homenet naming architecture where the CPEs manage the DNS zone associated to its home network, and outsources the naming service and eventually the DNSSEC management on the Internet to a third party designated as the Public Authoritative Servers. A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts directories. This draft is a work item of the Home Networking Working Group of the IETF. Title : Distributed Node Consensus Protocol Authors : Markus Stenberg Steven Barth Filename: draft-ietf-homenet-dncp-03.txt Pages : 27 Date: 2015-04-24 Abstract: This document describes the Distributed Node Consensus Protocol (DNCP), a generic state synchronization protocol which uses Trickle and Merkle trees. DNCP is transport agnostic and leaves some of the details to be specified in profiles, which define actual implementable DNCP based protocols.
