Re: [Hornlist] Han's are you Here?

2003-09-06 Thread Jjhosshorn
Leigh,

Please mail me with more info. on say playing qualities compared to some
larger american horns. I'm very curious as to the acoustic aspect of the horn,
how does it project? What kind of sound does it make? Is it flexible with what
kind of section of horns?? Things like that,

Best of wishes,

Hoss

Re: [Hornlist] Timbre trill

2003-09-06 Thread Valkhorn
Or just do what someone I knew did. In a Cadenza for some really modern piece
he decided to place the horn aside, stand in the middle of the stage, (and
fortunately this was a rehearsal) and said, "Why??". He then picked the horn
back up and finished the job.

I think it was some sort of bet, but I'm not really sure.

Re: [Hornlist] Timbre trill

2003-09-06 Thread John Baumgart
Regarding the "timbre trill," all I can think of is to play it 23 on the F
side and vary the inside of your mouth as if you're screaming
"AYIYIYIYIYIYIYIYIYIYIYIYIYI." Do this as close to the composer as possible
as loud as possible, and then whisper, "Like that?"

Subject: [Hornlist] Timbre trill

Our chamber orchestra will be performing a collection of movements that were
commissioned by our orchestra which are meant to "embody" the diversity of
our community and showcase local composer/arrangers. One composer is asking
for a "timbre trill" at one point in his composition. This is a rip up to a
g sharp with trill written over it. Parenthetically he has placed a g sharp
beside it. Can someone advise me as to exactly how this should be played?

In addition, another movement has a very slow (eighth note = 63) horn solo
over the string section. It begins with a low g sharp below the staff and
meanders its way up melodically, in a five bar stretch, up to a high C sharp
above the staff. I'm panicking! Any (kind) advise regarding this?
(Other than shoot the composer) Is this a reasonable request? The composer
is an organist I understand and I think played trumpet at some time in his
musical career.

Thanks,
Michael

There is a compilation of the concerts on an EMI CD. Check with your local
classical music CD dealer (if one still exists in your neighborhood) and
then do a classical title search on Tower or Amazon on line.

[Hornlist] Pizka Classic Horn

2003-09-06 Thread giovanniarcangeli
Hoss,

The Pizka horn is right up there with Schmid, Lawson, Haagston,
Finke, Otto and Duerk in terms of quality, playability and sheer joy one gets when
playing these horns. If you acquire a Pizka, you will never regret it. It compels you
to reach for even greater musicianship.
