[Hornlist] List of beginner mouthpieces

2005-01-08 Thread Jay Kosta
The mpc you mention are all acceptable for beginner and general-purpose
use - if the rim fits the player's lips teeth.

I would also include the Holton DC in the list, and the various Yamaha and
Schilke models if they are available to try-out - but don't waste time and
money on an extensive search unless none of the accessable choices are
satisfactory regarding fit feel.

Just choose one that fits comfortably - not too big, not too small, not
too thin, not too fat.

After you have developed a secure 'public performance playing range' from
G below the staff to G above the staff, then it might be reasonable to
start trying other mpc to see if they give any advantage.

In the interest of pedagogy and in my own interest as well, I'd like to know
how everyone feels about these mouthpieces for beginners:

Conn / UMI 7BW

Bach 11

Holton Farkas MC
Holton Farkas MDC

Giardinelli12
..

Didn't Chambers study at Curtis?

when Giardinelli was already in the picture. Dell'Osa mouthpieces generally
have a deeper, more V-shaped bowl than the C1-C8 mouthpieces of Giardinelli,
with a variety of bores and rims. I was told when I visited the shop in
Philadelphia many years ago that Dell'Osa essentially did it all by eye.

Stranger things have happened, though, so this assumption could be wrong. If
so, I'd love to see the evidence.

That's the way it's spelled on my mouthpiece. He should have known!

[Hornlist] repertoire questions

2005-01-08 Thread Julius Pranevicius
Hello,

I need some recommendations on repertoire.

I need some quite fast, fun to play and nice sounding intermediate piece for my
14 years-old sister to perform in competition in addition to Nocturno (for horn
and piano). Range from f below the staff to g or a above the staff.

And also, some advanced pieces for trio horn+trumpet+piano.

All recommendations are welcome.

Thanks in advance
Julius

[Hornlist] Compositions for horn, marimba, and piano

2005-01-08 Thread Linda
Hello Hornlisters.

I’m trying to find pieces for a core group of horn, piano, and marimba.
Other percussion could substitute for marimba, but marimba is our first
sound-choice. We’re wiling to expand to a quartet or quintet if necessary.
Any suggestions/leads?

Thanks,
Linda
