[Hornlist] Re: Horn Digest, Vol 31, Issue 24

2005-08-03 Thread Jim McDermott
What happened to all of the Hornlist members? Prior to the server change I
would get a digest with 20 -30 posts. Now it's more like 2 or 3.

Also, I just switched mouthpieces from a Holton MC to a gold plated UMI 7BW.
How long 'til I get used to the new one?

We're all still here, more or less. It's just a very slow time of the
year for the list. Traffic was very slow prior to the change also;
that's why I made the change when I did. Things will pick up in a few
weeks :-)

[Hornlist] horn flute

2005-08-03 Thread whitacrehill
Vocal duets can work extremely well (if you are playing with piano)-
soprano/alto or soprano/tenor etc. There are loads of published collections
out there.

[Hornlist] RE: UMI 7BW

2005-08-03 Thread Baucom.Fred

Hi Jim,
Don't know how long that will takewould think that depends on how
long you are playing it each day and what kind of work you are doing to
get used to it. Wanted to ask, though, why did you change? What do you
like better about the 7BW compared to the MC?
Fred

[Hornlist] Languir per una bella

2005-08-03 Thread simon locke
Dear Hornists

I have soon to play Rossini's L'Italianna in Algeri and I am told their is
lovely horn (and difficult ) solo accompanying Lindoro's first aria - Languir
per una bella. Has anyone got the horn part and had the experience of playing
it? If so, please let me know. I would like to be well prepared for the first
rehearsal. Know what I mean!!

Thanks in anticipation.

All the best

Simon Locke

RE: [Hornlist] solo of your choice

2005-08-03 Thread C G
The Hindemith Sonata (1939) is one that I know is very frequently used.
First movement shows ability, tone, technique. If you want to try and
venture into the more flashier side, the third movement will show it off
plus give the nice slower section to show contrast if you want to call it
that.

Casey!

When auditioning for an orchestra, virtually everyone asks for a solo of
your choice. However, are most audition committees expecting to hear
either

the first movements of Mozart #2 or #4, or Strauus #1 or #2? Are the other
staples of the literature (En Foret, Saint Saens Concertpiece, Adagio
Allegro) appropriate for an orchestra audition?
