[Hornlist] Re: Horn sound projector
It's called a "mute". :D S message: 6 date: Sat, 21 Jun 2008 19:57:51 -0500 from: Karon Ismari <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> subject: [Hornlist] Horn sound projector Please excuse the poor description but I remember having seen a round (cone shaped maybe) sound projector (correct term?) connected to something like a Manhasset stand base. You place it behind your bell to project the sound where and how you want it as it is adjustable . I have scanned the archives and can not find anything related to this, but I thought I read it here at some time or other. I have scoured the internet also and can find nothing. I know it was out there as I remember the price was around $50.00. Can anyone help with this? Thank you. RE: [Hornlist] Horn's Age and Condition
It all depends on the owner. If the horn is maintained properly, the valves shold not develop any damage after dozens of years. If the horn is not maintained properly, valves can be damaged after very few years. I own an Uhlmann Viennese from 1896 with Viennese valves tight as new. The horn had NO valve replacement or valve job. My oldest double is from 1978n& has been under heavy duty for over twenty years. No damage or wear on the valves. Well, all depends on the material of the valves. Bronze-like brass, if used for the valves (rarely), should be good forever. Cheap yellow brass will corrode faster even under best care. The other most important factor is the users saliva, which can ruin the brass very quickly if too aggressive. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Michael Kolaghassi Sent: Sunday, June 22, 2008 8:14 PM To: Horn list Subject: [Hornlist] Horn's Age and Condition Hey again, When would a horn's age considerably affect it's condition? Let me clear that question up.For instance, would a 14 year old horn that was well taken care of most likely need a valve rebuild? Would a 10-15 year old horn be considered old and need significant repair (valves or other costly procedure) if it was supposedly well maintained? I know it depends on several factors, but I just mean in general...is 10-15 year old horn considered old enough that valve wear and other factors could have significantly deteriorated the horn with the owner having reasonably maintained the horn? If you want to make it like a concert hall, put the deadening materials towards one side, and you play from the other side. -S- ___ post: horn@music.memphis.edu unsubscribe or set options at http://music2.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org

Hello. I am a student player and I have a problem. I usually practice in my room, which is not too big, but not too small. I outgrew it 5 years ago. But the response on the horn is good and I am trying not to overblow. But when I go back up to the band hall, the response sucks because of the huge room. How do I make it better for practicing in my room? You have to deal with stupid questions sometime. _ Need to know now? [Hornlist] King Eroica Horns
Hey everyone, Can anyone tell me a little about the quality of King's Eroica horns? I know they're a big open wrap and supposedly great for low horn but I'm more interested in the quality of the instruments and they're overall characteristics (what about high range, tuning, sound and feel?). Are they comparable to Conn 8Ds or Yamaha 668NIIs in quality? I really don't know much about the manufacturer since they aren't discussed too much. [Hornlist] Re: Help for embouchure problems
Wow, it doesn't get much plainer and simpler than that! I like simple exercises, as opposed to thinking too hard so here's a dirt simple thing to try out. Pick a passage to play, put your lips outside and around the mouthpiece and just blow air through the horn, no buzzing. Blow the air steadily, no tongueing, and finger the notes. Do the passage a few times. When you go back to play it for real, it will go much better. - Steve Mumford Milton wrote: Hi Valerie in Tacoma, Sorry I have been meaning to reply for awhile, but just couldn't seem to ge= t around to it.
