[Hornlist] Re: Blue Juice for Valves?

2008-09-07 Thread Steven Mumford

Having attended High School, I feel qualified to answer Steve's question.  You
can use Blue juice on your horn, but don't mix it with any other oils.  It
reacts badly with petrolium based oils and it will gum up.

the house?

The Saint-Saens Andante is a nice piece for horn and organ. It is beautiful
yet dramatic and moves through many keys. You can hear it on cdbaby under a
search for my name (John Little). I just recorded it and like it a great
deal.
I don't believe that it has been recorded before.

Best,

John Little

John - you say you just recorded it - is it possible that it hasn't
reached their searchable database yet?

Neither did I originally, then I looked at the titles of some of the albums
that came up and it is the David Lamb Blasts from the Past [I think that is
the title] album. I could not get any of the titles to actually play on my
computer though.

I did get them to play but I had to reassign certain file extensions to
quicktime instead of Mediaplayer. I hadn't done that earlier.

Re: [Hornlist] Re: Horn Digest, Vol 69, Issue 5

2008-09-07 Thread David Lamb
I am sorry to say that I am not the David Lamb of Blasts from the Past. I
am merely John David Lamb, and my CDs including horn music are titled
Callithumpian Concert where you will find my sonata Personae, and
Bird's Eye View where you will find Flourishes, a set of duets
originally for hand horns. On Classical.net you will also find a recording
of Song Dance, a concert piece for horn and chamber orchestra.

If you can't find any of this and are still curious, please write to me
off-line and I'll send you something.

[Hornlist] blue juice

2008-09-07 Thread Dawn McCandless
Some personal experience with Blue Juice in horn rotors gives me reason to
advise people not to use it on horns. A friend, who's horn I clean, left her
Blue Juice bottle accidently in her car trunk for quite a while. It went
through the PA winter and summer.  When she found the bottle what was left of
it was dried up rubbery blue gunk. When I cleaned her horn out there was gunk
in the rotors which hadn't been there before she ever used blue juice. I know
someone will not be happy with me for giving any problems about it. I used to
help my husband with brake repairs and some other car work. Plus we lived on
one farm where our landlord had an old dump truck with 400,000 miles on it (no
kidding). He never changed the oil in it. Talk about gooey old black oil!
Still, old greese looks nothing like that blue juice did. I used blue juice a
couple times on trumpet when I still played it once in a while. Trumpet valves
are more controllable than enclosed
horn rotors. After seeing that my personal preferences are to stay away from
Blue Juice for horn rotors.
