[Hornlist] Re: Horns

2008-10-11 Thread Adrian Hitchborn

Hi Mathew

I live and play in Germany and can tell you that about 90% of all
horn players here use an Alexander 103.
The rest? Well, other types of Alex. (503,1103,107), Engelbert Schmid
and less commonly Paxman,Yamaha or Otto.
Not too many on American made instruments - check out : http://
www.hornplayer.net/sections.asp?country=Germany

Sorry about posting twice - it´s been a long day!

Re: [Hornlist] Dennis Brain's Horn?

2008-04-07 Thread Adrian Hitchborn
This recording of the two Strauss concertos conducted by Sawallisch,
and the Hindemith concerto conducted by the composer himself, was
done late in Brain's life - 1956 I think. He was, at the time,
playing exclusively on his Alexander single B-flat horn (model 90).
On his earlier recording of the first Strauss under Alceo Galliera,
he was using a Raoux.

"Mehr sein als scheinen" would correctly be translated as "Be modest

[Hornlist] Poulenc's Elegie

2007-01-21 Thread Adrian Hitchborn
Yes to your first question Rebecca. Regarding the stopped horn
passage - play 5 bars (measures) bouché,then revert to open horn for
the rest of the piece.

This is indicated in the piano part of my copy, but omitted from the
horn part.Maybe we have the same edition(Chester).=

Hi Paul - This was actually recorded in Ely Cathedral (England) in
1973.I can't remember the names of all the horn players, but first
horn was definitely Jeff Bryant.
