RE: [Hornlist] Horn Wanted
Hi Wilbert, I have a 322 4 finger Yamaha with A+ valve in excellent shape. The horn has a custom screw bell conversion. A custom A+ to f extension hand switchable slide (replaces Thumb valve A+ slide). I can send you pictures if need be. I've tried Hoyer, Paxman Alexander, King (which I still own) and several others and prefer this horn. I can send you photo's if you like. Please pardon this dual posting. I am looking for one of the following: Paxman 10, Paxman 11, Alex 90, or Alex 97. All are single Bb horns, and hopefully the Paxman 10 and the Alex 90 will have the F extension slide. All of my usual sources, such as hornplayer.net and hornsaplenty do not have exactly what I want. In fact, Alan at hornsaplenty does not have any Bb horns at all, in spite of what's listed on their web site. Other brands might be acceptable. Let me know what you have. No Sansone horns, please! I have a double horn to trade, or just plain cash, or a combination of both. Thanks. RE: [Hornlist] titanium mp coating
Yes, the black titanium mp coating has the maximum "slip" of the coatings that Dave is offering. Gold has a little more grip. An uncoated stainless steel rim has the most grip. The difference, when polished is subtle. If you are looking for a more conventional feel, order the rim unpolished. You can always have it polished later. In fact, this brings up a great feature of an unpolished stainless steel mouthpiece. That is, changes can be made to the plain stainless rim without having to refinish with conventional plating techniques. Saves time and money. The thickness of the coating is very thin, so there is virtually no dimensional change. While on the subject of titanium coatings, the titanium is harder than nails and should last a great deal longer than silver or gold plating's. The coating is the same as you see on drill bits to maintain sharpness longer. I'm playing Bernstein's "On the Waterfront" this week end. The opening is very touchy. I'm using a Gene Standly 12 cup 18.50 rim. In addition I have a GS 10 and a GS 8 each with an 18.50 rim. All cups and rims in black titanium. If my lip changes during the performance I can instantly make an mp change to compensate. Dave does a great job of machining with his CNC lathes and is swamped with orders for here and abroad. I find that coating the cup with black titanium coating further improves lip vibration inside of the cup. The end result of Dave's stainless steel mouthpiece is a durable, remarkably sweet, projecting sound. One is a little more slippery than gold. That is the black one. It is quite amazing and feels like there us Vaseline on the rim. There is one which is gold looking and I believe grips more than silver. There I'd also a third coating. Dave would be a better source. RE: [Hornlist] Anybody in the know about Houser mouthpieces?
Dave Houser offers his stainless steel mouthpieces with a rim diameter of 18mm, 18.25mm, 18.50mm, and 18.75mm. All with a Giardenelli thread (3/4 x 36). All rims & cups are available with a standard black titanium coating for maximum "slip", or plain uncoated. RE: [Hornlist] Wanted: Elkhart 8D leadpipe
Hi Ben, The 8d lead pipe is a factory replacement part bent to fit the Conn 8d. I filled it with lead to custom fit a client's horn. He chose to install a Lawson pipe instead. I have an offer to buy the pipe. If the sale does not work out I'll get in touch with you. Mean while I'll send you a picture of the pipe. RE: [Hornlist] Wanted: Elkhart 8D leadpipe
Ben, I have an old Elkhardt 8d lead pipe that I've had in my shop for many years. I originally got it directly from Conn as a replacement part. It is leaded, which facilitate bending to shape. I would Suspect it is at least "N": series. I don't know how to price this item,so make an offer.
