Re: [Hornlist] Stephan Dohr

Everyone should check out the Lucerne Festival recording of Mahler Five in
which he plays the solo horn part in the scherzo standing.

Just watched that amazing clip on youtube of the Berlin Phil. playing the
Schumann Konzertstuck with Stephan Dohr playing 1st. What an incredible
 sound!
Does he have any solo recordings out? What kind of horn was he playing for
 this
performance? Why was Dale Clevenger playing 2nd?

You should play Aida (third or fourth part) with no F and all other possible
transpositions. It was a nachtmare for a nineteen year old.

Just finished playing Rigoletto. Talk about transporsing, ugh! Ab, Bb, D,
 C,
E, B, A and on and on! Only one part in F and I almost blew it!!

Re: [Hornlist] John Barrows

2007-10-05 Thread jamesarthurkirk
I saw him play the Hindemith Sonate on a Holton at the first horn symposium in
1969 in Florida. He also played horn quartets with Farkas, Tuckwell, and
Lansy-Otto which was fascinating because they all played differently but
blended perfectly.

At the end of his career, John Barrows played a Holton Farkas model-I think
it was the 77 or the 177. I don't know how many years for sure but I know
for fact this is true. If you thought the picture was Conn-esque then the
horn you saw was the Holton and not the Schmidt.

Re: [Hornlist] Clarinet/Horn duets

Please send the cl./hn. duets. Thank you.

A few years ago I offered to send listers copies of the Georges Fuchs
op.56 duets for horn and clarinet. This is a group of 24 pieces forming 6
duets. They are very 18th century - lots of noodles for both players.
The copies come from the Bibliotheque National de France.

In this electronic age, the paper is now scanned and I am happy to email
to anyone here who wants it. The package consists of an attachment of 17
 jpgs totalling about 900K.

If it is still in excellent condition, yes. I sold mine for $3700.00

 Hi.
i would like to ask if any of you know how much a second-hand Paxman model
20 would costs. I have come in contact with someone who has been played it
for 7 years, professionally. She is selling it at S$5000, about US$2500. Is
 it a bargain?

Re: [Hornlist] Stuck screw rings?

2003-12-21 Thread jamesarthurkirk
They are usually soldered in place. You must remove the rotor.
I have a quick question. I was wanting to clean out the bottom bearing plates
on my Schmid, but the bottom screw rings on the valves appear to be stuck.

Does anyone know the best way to get them un-stuck so I can clean out the
 bottom bearing plates?
