Anna, Check your Thompson Edition Book again. Daphnis and Chloe appears on pages 597-628. The Schoenberg is on pages 653-660. See you in Louisville? Re: [Hornlist] Orchestral Parts
I doubt if you get a real chance to buy single parts for any of these works, as all their works are still under protection. Ravel died 1937 - so his works expire 2007, Schoenberg died 1951 & Strawinsky died 1971 - so their works expire 2021 respectively 2041, still some time to go. You have to go to the library & read the scores to find out, what sports they might expect you to play for the audition. I remember from "Fairy´s Kiss" the delicate entrance with high b-natural & the rest of common staff; Daphnis & Chloe has some big leaps from low c up over more than 2 octaves, but has not much stuff to play. It is not a big task to read the score & search for spots interesting for an audition. There is much music which one must be able to read at the spot. If not, one is not ready for an audition, where they ask for such extreme excerpts. I do not know what kind of audition you are preparing yourself, but anyway, the people deciding such things to examine seem to have no idea about the meaning of horn playing. Every horn player can put another on thin ice easily. But asking for these excerpts seems to be for an exclusive eliminatory audition, where good luck is more requested than real playing ability showing tone culture, power, security & colours etc. Asking for Schoenberg´s Chamber Symphony is another strange example. When is it really played, how often ? And if it is on the program, there is plenty time to prepare it well. O.K., this piece really requires a lot of preparation time, as it is very easy to stumble there. Ask around, if any orchestra is willing to borrow the requested part or ask the orchestra where yu are auditioning for to send you a study copy of this part as you have difficulty to get hold of it. We do that for our candidates upon request for the single reason to avoid low level auditions. Feel free to contact me privately, as I could be of help to you. [Hornlist] Orchestral parts on CD-ROM
I thought that the following announcement forwarded from another list might be of interest to those looking to own a basic library of (Public Domain) horn parts (plus a few less than standard items). I have not seen the product itself and am not posting this as any sort of endorsement, just a FYI. I can't tell if the horn CD contains a full set of parts or just Horn I; my guess, from looking at the other listings is that all parts are included, but maybe not. Some PDF samples are already available through the site www.orchmusiclibrary.com but it doesn't seem like the one for horn is functional yet. My guess is that, if you have no trouble dealing with traditional Kalmus Edition parts, you would probably be comfortable with the kind of sheet music you can print out from these discs. The web site lists forthcoming volumes, including one titled "Debussy, Mahler and more" that might contain some more difficult to obtain material. If anyone has any firsthand knowledge of this product, please share it with the list. Regards, Peter Hirsch -- Subject: The incredible Orchestra Musician's CD-ROM Library is now available!
