I don't know how much Brahms played the horn but there is a photo, which
is on the cover of an LP from the WWV (which I have several available)
with Brahms in the group - members of the WWV. (natural horns back then)

Also, whilst we're on the subject I'm sure I once heard that Brahms
played
the horn. I know his father did, but the biography I've read doesn't
seem
to mention whether he did too. It seemed to make a lot of sense - I'm
not
generally a huge fan but I like his horn writing.

Can anybody confirm or contradict?

And to further parade my ignorance, was he the first person to write for
horn/piano/violin? It's a perfect combination.
