I love humor of all kinds. Anyone who knows me knows that. I don't get how you think I am inferring anything about unintentional humor. That wasn't the idea at all. I love unintentional humor, as long as it doesn't involve people laughing at someone else at their expense or in some mean spirited manner. I don't find that sort of thing funny. There is enough of that kind of juvenile humor going on nowadays anyway. I'm a laugh with you and not a laugh at you kind of guy. Jack Benny was my hero. Actually I like the fact that Donato seems to be having fun in some of his videos. Honestly, I just don't have the time to watch all of them. I was limiting my remarks to his serious playing. If someone can come on here and convince me that everything he does is a satire, as Ann Coulter tries to do, then I will simply withdraw in in the face of absurdity. I hope that Donato has a nice life and finds a place for himself. The problem with this is that others who I trust, closer to the European scene- much closer, than I am, have basically emailed me and confirmed my worst suspicions. I'm going to let it go at that. Life is too short to extend this kind of discourse, but if anyone has something more to say, then I welcome it. Hey everyone, I've been following this discussion and I clicked on that link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaLRYjaNSywfeature=channel_page to see that light hearted humor. Hahaha, come on guys I thought it was funny, watch the video. This guy is not being serious, I don't think I've seen a serious horn player get so involved in the music that they start jumping up and down and doing round about face offs while playing. And even if the poor guys is serious, I guess that makes it a bit more funnier. Hahaha I just about spit my drink all over the computer because I wanted to laugh when I saw him jumping up and down like that. Now of course I don't think this guy would make a real good professional horn player, but he might make a good stand up act. Well that's my take at least, Michael Kolaghassi ___ post: horn@music.memphis.edu unsubscribe or set options at http://music2.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org

Wendell wrote: OK, I hate being this negative so I am going to stop. But the reason I wrote this is because i hear a lot of playing that is headed in this direction. This is the stuff the demo tables at a horn workshop is made of. Just bad, insensitive notes. Ugly. Two thumbs down. Those of you who saw The Professor this summer in Denver saw some great fooling around and being facetious, etc. This is what the joke was all about. _ I share Valerie's view that many things can appear humorous, and I disagree with Wendell's last sentence that implies that humor occurs only when it is meant to be humor. But please, folks. If you aspire to be this type of player, think =20 again. This has nothing to do with music, it's just showing off- and =20 not very well at that. I could not agree more, sheer unmusical extravagance without any discernible humour for me personally. Not to be condoned, in my humble opinion, by anyone who really loves the horn. You are mistaken. He takes himself _very_ seriously. He's convinced he's an exceptional player, far superior to many renowned artists. He has offended, in public forums and with _very_ bad words, various principal horns of professional orchestras. ...if I were to turn back the clock a few decades to when I regularly attended horn-jock parties (and enjoyed all the associated atmosphere), I think it would be Sig. Inglese that I'd want to invite. I have to agree with brother Peter on this. The first Inglese video I stumbled across was his wonderfully demented take on Blue Bossa. Made me laugh and made my day, despite endless committee meetings. --John * John Mason Charlottesville, Virginia Cape Town, South Africa ___ post: horn@music.memphis.edu unsubscribe or set options at http://music2.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org
