Personally I'll never forget the occasion when a the friend who had kindly offered to spend an afternoon accompanying me on the piano in his home (after practicing the piano parts for weeks) turned out to have a piano tuned a semitone flat!! The Poulenc Elegie and the Schumann Adagio and Allegro didn't get played, but the ability to play the Mozart's 3 Eb concertos saved the day. One of the things about transposing is that you just never know when or where you might need it.
