1. NHR: Friday humor from Tabuteau (Howard Sanner) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- message: 1 date: Fri, 07 Nov 2008 07:49:53 -0800 from: Howard Sanner <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> subject: [Hornlist] NHR: Friday humor from Tabuteau On p. 239 & 240 of Laila Storch's biography of Marcel Tabuteau, there is the following letter that he sent to a fourteen year old aspiring oboist who had written him for career advice: My dear little girl, If I were you I would not have any more to do with the oboe than the pleasure of *listening* to it. I have been playing oboe for 45 years, and for 44 years my greatest desire has been to give up that very ungrateful instrument. Stop now while you still love it, and when you quit, let me know. Very faithfully, Marcel Tabuteau BTW, I have found Storch's biography to be very interesting, unlike most biographies, particularly her letters home recounting her experiences studying with him.
