Indeed so. Not only was this good advice known to the ancients, but it comes from a reliable source. 1 Samuel 16:1 sez: The LORD said to Samuel: "How long will you grieve for Saul, whom I have rejected as king of Israel? Last gallon of it I bought was about $10 at Target, if I remember right. I still have more than half of it left. No, it doesn't fit in my Thompson Edition cases, either, but that's what little bottles are for. And tiny funnels. ___ post: horn@music.memphis.edu unsubscribe or set options at http://music2.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org

Fred wrote Also re oil, it is worth considering that while oil sells currently for around $96/barrel, that is equivalent to around 66 euros - back in January 2001 there was rough parity between the two currencies (1 euro = 0.94 dollars), so the rapid price rise of oil in US dollars since that time is to a large degree a function of the declining international value of the dollar. The situation is even worse for valve oil. I spent $4.95 on my most recent purchase. This is over $12,000 a barrel! Luckily, a barrel of valve oil will last a long time, even though it doesn't fit very easily in the little compartment of my MB case. I have opne of these bags. It's given me good service for 5 years or so. Its a soft gig bag so it's not going to give any protection from hard knocks but it is reasonably well padded and certainly better than some of the other bags I looked at. Space is limited but the compartment at the front has room for my metronome/tuner, Dennis Wick straight mute, 2 mouthpeices, and 2 valve oil bottles and slide wax. There is a side container with room for music - not a thick wad but more than just a4 sixe. The straps are robust (though I've had to adjust the clips which had a tendency to come loose - a quick squeeze with a pair of pliers did the trick. And the case is comfortable enough as a back-pack. I wouldn't let my horn out of my sight (or reach) in this (or any other soft bag) but it lets me cycle to rehearsals which means I can do my bit for the environment. Hope that's some use.
