[Hornlist] The naming of horns

2003-05-30 Thread Graham Jarvis
Until it was (more or less) housetrained my horn was called Attilla. Now that we've
got to know each other better names don't seem important - except when we miss an
important entry - the names my horn gets called then are mostly unprintable.
Graham
(Actually - when I think about it - maybe it's ME they're calling names??!)

I wish you had sent to me privately, Julio... I meant that "in fun", not
seriously, as I suspect you may have taken it knowing your and Prof. Pizka's
past problems...

My wife's 8D is named "Sig," short for you know
who.

I've named a couple of my horns in the past, but my
two current horns are both nameless, except for
Yamaha and Alexander.

You know, I've never named any of my horns. Nor do I know many people who
do, or at least have ever refered to their horns by name in my presence.

I do name my computers however. There's Cosmo, and Budsy, and Betsy, and
God, and Kiwi, but God is usually offline.

The next question is if you don't have a name for your horn, what WOULD you
name it? For me, it would have to be 'Fred'. Chummy, dependable Fred.

[Hornlist] The Naming of Horns

2003-05-30 Thread Darcy Beth Hamlin
So I have to ask you. Do hornists still name their horns?

My 8D's name was Lucy, after the actress that played Xena on the TV series
(battle on!!). My Holton 180 that I played through high school was named
Lance. I don't remember naming my little Conn single that I started on when
I was 10.

So I've gotten some suggestions for my new 11DRS. My mom suggested "Ms. Rose
B. Conn", but I thought that was a bit too obvious. Friends have suggested
Clara Belle (isn't that some scary clown or a cow or something?), Rosie
O'Hornel (I thought Rosie O'CONNel would have been even more apropos), and
Bella Rossa.

Creative suggestions, anyone? (Ooh boy, I'm askin' for it, aren't I...)

Darcy and her new 11DRS
