RE: [Hornlist] Tomboeck
Dear Yamada-san, many thanks again for your generosity your help while in Bangkok. I enjoyed your company very much hope we can repeat the same for Walkuere. I also hope, it was a nice experience for you to sit in the Wagner orchestra. By the way, I have found the shop selling all these DVDs from China. It is in downtown Bangkok at DIGITAL PLANET tel.: 0--4829 mobile 0-6978-2935 address: 222 Srivorajak 1st floor, (Klongthom Air) Pomprap Bangkok. It is the larger building on the right side of the street after Payaban Klang (Klang Hospital). Entrance is from the street side just five steps up. They have nearly everything sell at about 220 - 250 Baht. Their collection includes all the big sets with Vienna Phil, Karajan, historical performances, great pianists, great violinists, great conductors. Again many thanks for your kindness. Let´s keep contact for future adventures in Wagner. If you have to travel to Munich, I would be delighted having you as guest here. Warmest greetings from Munich Hans ___ post: horn@music.memphis.edu unsubscribe or set options at http://music2.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org

I think some people might prefer CD to downloads and that could be cheaper. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001WE4A4/qid=1138452149/sr=11-1/ref=sr_11_1/103-6130100-6757430?n=5174 or http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/album.jsp?album_id=95139 Yes, Wolfgang Tomboeck junger is wonderful! Listen to his rendition of Mahler in the recent ORF Vienna Horns disc (Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen) with a Bb Wagner Tuba! I quote from his own liner note from the above Naxos CD which nicely epitomize his cause (which I heartily share): Why, in spite of this, do we persist in using the Vienna horn? Quite simple: it sounds like a horn, soft, rounded and unlimited in its wealth of tone colours, without covering the violins. It thus suits Brahms, Bruckner and Wagner, who wrote specifically for the instrument. Happy listening! With all due respect to all others, I must say that I never heard anything like this. This is the True Horn Sound, dreamed of since I took the instrument; its quality never lowers, even in the difficult passages. And if you let a friend listen to this album, he may ask: But why do you need a double horn? Hi all, I also recently heard this CD as I was driving to a concert, and I agree - this is exquisite playing at the very highest possible level. Do yourselves a favor and listen to an incredible artist who transcends the instrument.
