RE: [Hornlist] critics.....
I sent it again from my other PC using another software. Comical, if I send mail to travel agents in Thailand, Southamerica or India, I never had any problems with the t-online software nor did I have difficulties reading mails written using this softwar when I was abroad & used Internet Cafe. The problem seems to be at the server of the hornlist. [Hornlist] critics.....
I have always had the focus that "making music" is what it is all about. I went to one of Arthur Rubinstein's final concerts. Friend that went with me was at first reluctant to go due to Rubinstein's advanced years and being past his prime. Well, let me say that Rubinstein's "missed" notes had more music in them than most young artists today that are technically perfect. I have heard many perfectly played horn passages that I have forgotten and yet remember memorable performances were there were technical faults yet the MUSIC making was spectacular. A word about critics versus NON-PROFESSIONALS - and a word about using critic today. If a professional uses critic regarding the music making of an amateur or semi professional, he uses this critic NEVER to intimidate the amateur or semi professional. This is a complete false understanding of the sense of critic. The critic is the most valuable advice given to those who need that advice, but they must accept it. Critic is also the most valuable teaching tool for the responsible teacher. The critic is NEVER directed towards the personality of some individual(s), who are mostly unknown in these internet conversations. The professional use the tool CRITIC, to help to improve the playing quality of other players, to improve the music understanding of less educated players. TODAY, most critics in all fields of life are taken as personal insults, mostly, special by the less qualified. But, is it a sign of weakness, if one is less qualified ? I think , it is NOT. The amateur or semi professional does not need to be so high & special qualified as the true professional, who makes a living by playing music in a high qualified ensemble. And being higher qualified, does not include the right to look down upon the less qualified, no, the contrary, he or she - receiving the income from public support mostly - is obliged to give something back by teaching & helping the less qualified in their "hemisphere". This should be stated once again very strongly. And a short word about being gifted: It is the same game always, where the NOT gifted doubt always that there were gifted individuals, and play the environment, circumstances, education & hard work card. There are gifted people, if you believe it or not. Some have an IQ of 140+, - from the beginning. Some children at age 3-4 taught themselves how to read & write or math, to the big surprise of their parents. But real gifted individuals are RARE, very RARE. This is not against Darwin´s theories but it might be in contrast to "Adam & Eve in the paradise".
