LLB IIRC too much advance at low RPM will cause a backfire. This is annoying to your section-mates. Re: [Hornlist] repair technitians
They probably didn't clean all the Brasso out of the casing, and the chewing gum hardened and fell off the bumper. If you've been following the latest repair thread, you will have concluded, correctly, that this list is populated by many of the best technicians in the world. You don't need a top technician to properly clean and set up a horn, as long as he is setting the shop standards and betting his reputation on the results. I do most of my own repair work since I collect and restore old instruments. The first thing my teacher from the BSO taught me was how to disassemble rotors and clean my horn. It's easy and fun and very satisfying to know the inside of your instrument so intimately that you are aware of the changes going on over the years. If you know your own instrument like this, you'll find it much more pleasurable for both you and a competent technician to plan and schedule repairs that become necessary. I've never gone into professional repair because I'm too uncomfortable dealing with people who are completely ignorant of the process. If I quote the minimum possible, which is what they want to hear, there is an almost certainty that the instrument will only stay functional for a short period. Covering all the possibilities, they may as well replace the instrument. Instead, I work as a consultant. There are those who see no difference between a consultant and a hooker, except the customer always gets what he pays for from the consultant.. -Original Message- From: Kathy Lowe <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: hornlist Sent: Mon, 9 Jan 2006 14:37:16 -0800 (PST) Subject: [Hornlist] repair technitians Does anyone have a repair technician they trust in the Los Angeles, Orange County area. In the unlikely case that they are mismarked however, this should be explained to you how they are off and why the tech lined them up that way they did- by the tech when you pick up the instrument.
