When I raised the issue with my repair person, he said he
would want to use parts from Alexander and that, since these
weren't parts he stocked normally, I might as well have them
make the entire thing. I don't know what is unique or not
here and whether sound, appearance, or both are at issue.

Steve, go see Randy Ulmer in Joysey. Email me offlist if you
need the contact info. He would be able to fabricate the
slide you want. Alex tubing is 12mm and standard US tubing
is 11.89mm. The proper tubing can be purchased here in the
US but not many shops have it on the shelf.

 The Jack Attack!

Jack, Randy _is_ my repair person. Getting it from Alexander was his idea.

2007-08-14 Thread Fred
Steve,

A few years ago, I needed a similar setup for my Paxman. Rather than go
thru the manufacturer, I visited a competent repairman in my area, who made
for me two identical, straight tubes (male on one end, female on the
other). So, I am now able to insert the two straight slides into the
desired slide receiver on the horn, and then add the existing slide to the
top, connecting the new slides. If nothing is physically in the way on your
Alex that would prevent, this may work for you if you remain unsucessful in
contacting them.

2007-08-14 Thread Paul Mansur
the cylindrical tubing on an Alex is about .2 mm larger than US
horns. The stock tubing in US shops is too small.
