I recently tried Jerome Ashby's old Kuhn 393 and absolutely loved it. I
can't compare it to any of the instruments you mentioned as I haven't
played on the Schmid and the Alex and Paxman haven't touched my lips in
over a decade.

The Kuhn had a different sound and feel than any Geyer-based wrap (I
know...kind of hard to do a Geyer with a triple, but you get my point)
instrument I've ever tried. While it was light for a triple, I wouldn't
classify it as a lightweight horn. As for the sound, it was very
substantial - more than I expected. I play a Lawson Fourier normally
and I didn't give up much in the way of sheer power trying the triple.

Ultimately, the ONLY reason I didn't buy it was simply because I don't
see myself needing the triple (I played on a Yamaha triple for a couple
of years and never really used the High F side for anything but novelty
and the F# entrance in the Nutcracker) and the mass involved and the new
hand arrangement wasn't worth it to me.

I'm VERY seriously considering a new Kuhn 293 right now based on my
positive recent experiences with the Kuhn triple though.

Cheers -

Jeremy
