Re: [Hornlist] RE: Good College for Music Education
Fullerton never had a marching band, but Long Beach did when I was there (1970's) - did they get rid of it? But, if you are serious hornist, no marching band is very definitely a PLUS Nothing screws up your chops like playing while marching Fred - Original Message From: Kathy Lowe [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: hornlist horn@music.memphis.edu Sent: Tuesday, February 6, 2007 8:36:27 AM Subject: [Hornlist] RE: Good College for Music Education Hi Stephanie, A large number of the High School Music teachers in Orange County received their degree from either Cal State Long Beach or Cal State Fullerton. I can't recommend either one as I graduated as an Engineer from Cal Poly SLO. The only knock (IMO) on Long Beach or Fullerton is that neither school has a marching band (no football). Kathy Amateur ---Original Message--- I'm currently a Junior in High School and I am just starting to seriously look a colleges. I know that I want to major in Music Education however I don't really know which Colleges have a good program. I'm from San Diego and ideally I want to stay on the West coast (which is a long stretch). Does any one know of colleges with good Music Education programs, I hope to teach either High School Band or Choir. Get your own web address. Have a HUGE year through Yahoo! Now I have a good excuse, thanks! That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Yep, I missed that first time around - marching band would be obligatory for that... When I went to the Big West Tourney last year, Long Beach did have a very large pep band (they rotated players, only 35 are allowed to play in the stands at one time). Cal Poly brought their marching percussion along. (OK, I'm bragging; Band always wins) You will note with the original post, Stephanie wanted to be a HS Band Director not a professional hornist. If she manages to find a teaching position in Southern California, marching band participation is almost mandatory. She should consider more marching band experience than what she had in HS.
