What is needed to succeed?

Tech WG IRC meeting X+15: Summary

dodobas:
  * on behalf of (pgiraud) - OSMTM 2.5 release is due shortly
(https://github.com/hotosm/osm-tasking-manager2/releases)
  * busy preparing HOT GeoNode instance (http://geonode.org/)
* primarly for HOT data exchange/visualisation... for example you want to
share some spatial data... and you don't want to upload it to the dropbox or
send as an attachment
  * hot-export - activated job_deprecation policy
* suggested to prefix export jobs which need to be archived with
'[Archive]' - requires an update to the SQL query, simplest solution at the
moment

sev_hotosm:
  * will provide a comma separated list of job_ids which we want to 'archive'
- - jobs will never be deprecated
  * will propose how to communicate job archival to the users

mm731:
  * a graduate student in GIS at Eastern Michigan University, here to listen
in and contribute eventually

mkl:
  * organize a meeting and have 2-3 of us to co-work the digestion of github
tickets - priorities - specification for HOT projects
  * a quick review and prioritization, just to get context straight, then to
reach out and arrange interviews with users, from there, draw up priorities,
and solicit feedback, ultimately, decisions need to be made, but this process
grounds it in what's actually needed

Hi Dražen,

I know that the Training WG and the Community WG were both discussing
things that involved the tasking manager.

Should we make an effort to review the issues and enhancements in
tasking manager github site that exist now and add in enhancement
requests if we have some that are not submitted properly yet?

Best wishes,

Hi Blake,

any community effort is greatly appreciated.

You can open a hackpad document or some other collaborative editing service
and start reviewing issues and enhancements for the tasking manager.

It would also help if you can attend the meeting on Thursday.

Hi All,

Just a reminder if you have possible project ideas for a three month intern

 Hi All,

HOT and Mapzen are going to work together to support an intern in the
Outreach Program for Women(1). This is through the generous financial
 support of Mapzen.

Right now we are putting a wikipage together of possible projects(2). Then
interested individuals will be able to make a proposal and apply to the
program. It is a full-time internship with a stipend of $5500 taking place
from the 9th of December until the 9th of March. Unlike Google Summer of
Code which the program is based on the projects don't have to specifically
be coding, though they certainly could be. Please if you are interested in
helping mentor or have project ideas please add them to the wiki.

Some background on the program from the OPM website: The Outreach Program
for Women (OPW) was inspired by Google's Summer of Code and by how few
women applied for it. The GNOME Foundation first started the OPW with one
round in 2006, and then resumed the effort in 2010 with rounds organized
twice a year. In the May-August 2012 round, the Software Freedom
Conservancy joined the OPW with one internship with the Twisted project. In
the January-April 2013 round, many other free and open source organizations
 joined the program.

This program is a welcoming link that connects talented and passionate
newcomers with people working in free and open source software and guides
them through their first contribution. Through OPW, participants learn how
exciting and valuable work on software freedom can be, while helping us to
 build a more inclusive community.

 Best,

 -Kate
