[HOT] HOT referenced in two World Bank featured blog post

2015-11-04 Thread Vivien Deparday
Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you know about two blog posts that our team published
and that refer to HOT and other partners' work (Ausaid/DFAT, U.S. State
Department - Mapgive, USAID, KLL, GW University, ARC, etc...) and that
promote the good work that this community has been doing:

Blog post on how communities are paying it forward through community
mapping activities:
http://blogs.worldbank.org/voices/paying-it-forward-in-a-digital-age-a-global-community-committed-to-a-mapped-world

A feature story on the 6 month anniversary of the Nepal EQ:

Any idea what the fields of small earth mounds are? They are usually near
towns. Cemetaries? Melon fields?

Hi Daniel, if you could share a url from id or josm some of us will take a look.

Just a wild guess here from your description, not knowing the area you
are mapping in, could it be cassava fields?

Oops, typo - to contact the HTC maintainers, the correct email is

Subject: [HOT] HOT Training Center

Hello everyone,

As promised, I have gone through the HOT Training Center, with some help of
course - and now all Activation course content can be viewed without
enrolling (as a guest). If you want to take the training and become part of
the Activation Roster, you will need to enroll and complete the Activation
Essentials course (as well as one or more of the role course exam(s) that
interest you - in other words - you need to be trained for a role to be on a
team and complete the endorsement).

Also, what is maybe personally a bit more exciting, is to introduce our
"HOT: The Missing Manual" course! This course is the first in our "HOT
Basics" category and will hopefully help anyone interested in knowing more
about how our community works. It doesn't currently have a 'completion'
(i.e. still working on badge/certificate/etc.) but is also available to view
the content as a guest until we get that done.

You can find all this training at the HOT Training Center -
http://courses.hotosm.org/ and of course if you have any trouble, questions,
etc. feel free to email cou...@hotosm.org

Enjoy!

Russ - very exciting! Both of these were things the community requested and
it's wonderful to see them happen.

[HOT] Export Tool Changing Servers | Read-Only Copy

2015-11-04 Thread Mhairi O'Hara
*Hello HOTties,*

*As the new Export Tool has been successfully
rolled out, the earlier version is to be switched off as it is held on the
GeoFabrik servers and we will no longer be enlisting their generous
services. We will create a read-only version of the old Export Too
l and host it on the HOT servers alongside
the new Export Tool.*

*The read-only version will be a web interface hosted with a copy of the
database, but there will not be any further data updates and although new
jobs may be created they will not be executed. The change will take place
this coming Monday on the 9th November, so please be prepared to start
using the new Export Tool for the creation of future exports with
up-to-date data.*

*We are aware that this may be inconvenient for those that would like to
continue using the transform and translation functionality, which is not
currently offered in the new tool. Please be patient till it is possible
for these features to be added. In the meantime I would like to suggest the
use of external GIS software such as QGIS to perform
these tasks.*

*Kind regards,*

*Mhairi *
