[HOT] New OSGEO UN Committee

2015-11-05 Thread Kate Chapman
Hi HOT,

OSGEO has started a new committee to build a closer relationship with the
UN to encourage use of open-source geospatial software. I thought it might
be of interest of HOT to get involved.

Hi Rieger,
If I understand well your query then it is easy. What format disaster data
you have ? If it is GIS format then you can download the OSM layer as base
in ArcGIS 10-10.3 all versions. You can show that also in QGIS by using
Openlayer tool to download the OSM data.

Thanks and regards

[HOT] Adding a disaster layer to openstreetmap

2015-11-05 Thread Rieger, Courtney
Hi,

I'm looking for a way to add a disaster layer to any mapping program
utilizing OSM software. I work for a community that wants to display their
flood data on a map of their town utilizing the interactive interface of
OSM. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Courtney Rieger

Re: [HOT] Adding a disaster layer to openstreetmap

2015-11-05 Thread Pierre Béland
Hi Rieger,
as already answered on the import list, you should simply create a polygon and
save with geojson format. With UMap, it is easy to overlay such disaster layer
over an openstreetmap basemap.
If you need any help, dont hesitate to ask on the list.

[HOT] umbrella

2015-11-05 Thread Daniel Specht
Has anyone seen beach umbrellas in Afghanistan?

I've seen a lot of what look like tent camps. This object casts a shadow
like an umbrella.

What about every imaginable thing possible including social media in the

[HOT] KLL's Six Months of Earthquake Response

2015-11-05 Thread Nama Budhathoki
Dear Friends,
Greetings from Kathmandu!

Thank you so much for your incredible support in mapping Nepal after April
25 earthquake. We tried our best to connect your contribution to relief
agencies on the ground and use it as effectively as we could to save lives
and provide aid to the victims. I believe there is much to learn from our
collective effort to prepare for future disasters.

Six months have passed since we were hit by the earthquake on April 25.
Marking those six months, we spent some time to reflect and put the major
activities in a timeline here:

*
I hope you will also take a few minutes to reflect on those six months and
how we worked together!

With best regards,

Nama

This is something that I have been thinking about. What about road
closures or planned road changes etc. Fires and crime. These are real
time or planned events that could be supported by their own layer in
OSM. Right now I don't know of any place that we could effectivly
store and publish road closures from a city in osm.
