Re: [HOT] [talk-latam] Terremoto Ecuador - TMS Ortoimágenes IGM / IGM orthoimages

2016-04-18 Thread Jean-Guilhem Cailton
Hola, (in English below)

Aquí están capas TMS agrupando imágenes del WMS del Instituto Geográfico
Militar (IGM) de Ecuador. Como a veces hay "partes blancas" alrededor de
las imágenes que pueden esconder el contenido de otras imágenes, hay
varios grupos.

Ocho imágenes seleccionadas ayer con Daniel, Humberto y Fred:
http://imagery.openstreetmap.fr/tms/1.0.0/ecuador_orto/{zoom}/{x}/{y}

Una cobertura por cuadrícula de imágenes (que aparecen ser de 2014) :
http://imagery.openstreetmap.fr/tms/1.0.0/ecuador_orto_grid/{zoom}/{x}/{y}

Otras imágenes de 2014 :
http://imagery.openstreetmap.fr/tms/1.0.0/ecuador_orto_2014/{zoom}/{x}/{y}

imágenes de 2015 :
http://imagery.openstreetmap.fr/tms/1.0.0/ecuador_orto_2015/{zoom}/{x}/{y}

Una capa con todas estas (escondiéndose a veces) :
http://imagery.openstreetmap.fr/tms/1.0.0/ecuador_orto_todo/{zoom}/{x}/{y}

Cada imagen puede accederse también sola en WMS (en JOSM), desde :

Hi,

TMS layers grouping images from Instituto Geográfico Militar (IGM) de
Ecuador are available. As some "white parts" around the images can
sometimes cover the content of other images, several groupings are
available.

Eight images selected yesterday by Daniel:
http://imagery.openstreetmap.fr/tms/1.0.0/ecuador_orto/{zoom}/{x}/{y}

A grid cover (that appears to have been taken in 2014):
http://imagery.openstreetmap.fr/tms/1.0.0/ecuador_orto_grid/{zoom}/{x}/{y}

Other images taken in 2014:
http://imagery.openstreetmap.fr/tms/1.0.0/ecuador_orto_2014/{zoom}/{x}/{y}

Images taken in 2015 :
http://imagery.openstreetmap.fr/tms/1.0.0/ecuador_orto_2015/{zoom}/{x}/{y}

A layer with all the above (which sometimes hide each other):
http://imagery.openstreetmap.fr/tms/1.0.0/ecuador_orto_todo/{zoom}/{x}/{y}

Each image can also be accessed individually via WMS (in JOSM), from:

http://www.geoportaligm.gob.ec/orto/wms?service=wms&version=1.3.0&request=GetCapabilities

Best wishes,

Jean-Guilhem

2016-04-18 Thread Pete Masters
Hi Humberto, the projects in the TM are a bit light on instruction. Do you
want me to add more detail on instructions? In case this attracts newer
mappers?

Also, the imagery link doesn't open automatically in iD or JOSM. Is it just
the normal bing imagery you want people to use?

Thanks,

Pete

2016-04-18 Thread Pete Masters
No problem... In have updated the instructions, but not had any luck with
the imagery. If we are just using the normal bing imagery, I think we just
leave the imagery box blank on the task. iD will then default to it and
JOSM users will know where to get it...

Is it the normal bing imagery we want people to use?

Cool John!

So, Mapbox could be the switching option when Bing is not present in actual
oppenned projects? If so, please can someone add this new information to

Do you want me to add more detail on instructions? In case this

Also, the imagery link doesn't open automatically in iD or JOSM. Is

Humberto,

I am creating daily exports for OSM data in Ecuador based on Geofabrik's
country PBF file:

http://ecuador.piensa.co

It's split by Helipads, Lakes, Medical, Schools and other potentially
useful datasets in GeoJson, Shapefile, KML, SQL and PBF formats.

[HOT] HOT Supporting Several Disaster Responses

2016-04-18 Thread Russell Deffner
Greetings HOT community,

Of course there's never a good time for disaster to strike. In the last
week, HOT community members have jumped into action to assess several
earthquake events - the first in Myanmar on the 13th; luckily this one
turned out to be relatively minor in terms of humanitarian impact because
before we really had a chance to respond, several earthquakes hit Kumamoto
Japan on the 14th and 15th. Most of you are probably aware of our great
friends and colleagues from Crisis Mappers Japan (http://crisismappers.jp/),
they immediately jumped into action creating several projects on the main
HOT instance of the OSM Tasking Manager (http://tasks.hotosm.org) and
continue to add projects - these are mostly 'only buildings' projects as
there has been some great efforts in the past to map the road network in
Japan - and it's got a bit different model than 'standard' road networks, so
probably avoid remotely changing any roads.

Then of course, the most recent chatter on the list is about another
earthquake - this time in Ecuador. HOT has for some time been working on the
support and growth of OSM communities in South America and we have some
great colleagues who have launched the initial response to this event and
are adding projects to the HOT TM as they get a better understanding of the
impacted area - what the best imagery to use is and all the other challenges
faced during an event coordination.

HOT is supporting all of these efforts and continue to evaluate the
situation - as well as stay alert for any new events. Please do jump onto
the tasking manager if you can contribute some time to help!

Thank you,

=Russ

I take that back, it's not entirely useless. We only need to figure out a
way to consolidate the lines where people forgot to add the specific code
with the ones where they did add it. I guess Pandas or R should be able to
do that, but I'm still rather busy validating the tasks.

Re: [HOT] Missing Maps User Stats

2016-04-18 Thread Dale Kunce
We are looking into why it's getting slow sometimes.

For the hashtags the easiest way is to prepopulate them into the tasking
manager.

If you have any suggestions or feedback feel free to file github tickets so
we can be sure to add it to our backlog.

[HOT] Emergency Mapathon in Burlington, VT - Ecuador Earthquake

2016-04-18 Thread noah ahles
Hi All,

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake devastated the coastal region of Ecuador on
Saturday, April 16th. This major event was followed by several aftershocks
and has caused significant loss of life and damage to infrastructure (
http://edition.cnn.com/2016/04/18/americas/ecuador-earthquake/index.html).

Join us to create digital maps of the most affected areas, providing rescue
operations with valuable information to save lives and distribute supplies
to those in need.

*Where: Aiken Center, UVM Campus - Computer Lab, Room 101*
*When: Wednesday April 20th, 6pm - 9pm*

Here is the event page for the event: http://tinyurl.com/jjo7lu5

The most vulnerable people are those in rural areas, which are the hardest
to reach due to roadways that have been destroyed. Having an up-to-date map
of the area is crucial to helping as many people as possible as quickly as
possible.

Anyone can join, even if you have no experience. There will be computers
provided but you can bring a laptop if you'd like. Feel free to tell some
friends and stop by for as long as you have time for. There will be pizza!

This is the most time sensitive project we have worked on all semester.
Even if you have only a half hour to stop by it will go a long way. If you
would like to work on the project remotely, there are instructions on how
to get going at the bottom of the page. We will be using the hashtag
#MapEcuador to track our edits. Send me an email if you have any questions.

When thousands of people around the world contribute to mapping areas
together we can rapidly produce actionable datasets when they are needed
most.

Best,
Noah

OpenStreetMap Instructions

   -

Start by making an account using FireFox or Google Chrome:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/ and make sure to check the allow public
   domain button
   -

Zoom in somewhere and press the edit button in the upper left corner
   -

Start the Walkthrough, (the walkthrough can also be accessed by clicking
the help button on the right hand side of the screen)
   -

Once you have done that head to the task manager and choose a task by
   searching for 'Ecuador'
   -

   http://tasks.hotosm.org/

   -

Read the instructions carefully and then go to the contribute tab to
sign out a tile, select the ID Editor from the drop down arrow, keep the
instructions tab open to refer back to
   -

Remember to save every 10 edits or so and use the changeset tag that is
generated automatically and anything else that is requested in the
Instructions tab e.g. source = Bing (this is found in the upper left corner
   after you press save)
   -

Click, hold and drag the screen to pan around while editing
   -

Click, hold and drag nodes on a feature to reshape it
   -

When creating lines drag a node back into the previous node to delete a
   section
   -

Control + Z and Control + Y work well for going back or forward
respectively 1 edit (e.g. if you accidentally erase something hold Control
+ Z to bring it back)
   -

Change brightness to 100% in "Background Settings" on the right of the
ID editor, activating the minimap button may also be helpful for keeping
track of where you are editing
   -

When finishing up a tile (press ‘Stop Mapping’ if there is more to do in
the tile or ‘Mark as Done’ if it is finished) it is a good habit to write a
short comment about the features that you edited within that tile or if the
imagery is missing a section, cloud cover etc.
   -

If you forget to classify a feature and try to save it, there will be an
error. Click on the error message to return to the untagged feature to
   classify it
   -

Square buildings with the 'S' key after classifying them (create area,
classify it as building, then press 's')
   -

Make sure buildings do not overlap each other, zoom in very close if you
   think they may be touching
   -

The 'W' key will turn data colors on and off so you can see under edits
   that have already been done
   -

If you are just starting out, try not to delete data that others have
   created
   -

Hotkeys for lines and areas are 2 and 3
   -

If the imagery is offset, there is a 'fix alignment function' in
background settings on the right of the screen
   -

keep the Task manager INSTRUCTIONS tab open to refer back to whenever
needed, this tab details how to classify features
   -

If the tile is too big you can split it using the task manager
   - When creating road networks it's important that the roads are actually
connecting to each other as it shows in the line segment of the
walkthrough, try not to connect these road networks to other polygons (e.g.
landuse = residential or administrative boundaries)
   - Add the hashtag #MapEcuador to the changeset comments that are
automatically populated (after clicking save edits it is in the upper left
   hand corner of the screen)

David Chang,

It's easy to just embed the link to the GeoJSON file for any of the
datasets and it will be updated daily too (urls don't change):

Re: [HOT] Emergency Mapathon in Burlington, VT - Ecuador Earthquake

2016-04-18 Thread john whelan
There has been much discussion about mapping buildings recently in HOT and
the Ecuador projects are for the most part buildings.

If you are supplying machines then please install JOSM with the
building_tool plugin which also implies JAVA. Mapping with the JOSM
building_tool is fast and accurate, the validators will love you.

Mapping with a mouse is much more accurate so if possible have some spares.

If you're mapping in JOSM with the building tool just power it up, grab a
tile and split it, then split it again, edit with JOSM and show them how to
map the first building. That's about all the training they need apart from
the up arrow on the top left to upload.

My personal advice is if you're mapping with iD split the tiles twice
again, if you have someone with JOSM around don't square in iD it doesn't
always work get the JOSM person to go into the tile, search f
building nodes:-7 then press q and upload the changes. You might want to
have the mappers inspect the squared buildings afterwards.

If you are mapping with iD roughly every hour save and press the stop
mapping button. Then select the tile again, this appears to be important
as I see duplicate buildings from different mappers and it is suspected the
first mapper times out and a second mapper grabs the tile so two mappers
are mapping the same area at the same time.

If you have any experienced mappers available then get them to read this
bit on validating.
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Tasking_Manager/Validating_data and
if they can validate as people map and give feedback that improves the
quality enormously.

learnosm.org is a very useful resource. The training guides have been much
improved over the last little while.

Have fun.

Re: [HOT] [info-hotosm] Helping out Ecuador

2016-04-18 Thread David Chang
Guys, by any chance:

Is there a tool where brigades can organize themselves so they know how to
redistribute rations and donations across a region?
It seems donations are very concentrated in Pedernales, but many teams have
found that help is needed in other locations, and these are not getting
much of it.

 David Chang,

It's easy to just embed the link to the GeoJSON file for any of the
datasets and it will be updated daily too (urls don't change):

Looking at the other articles this site posts they seem to be into the doom and
gloom business heralding catastrophes of all kinds, so I wouldn’t take the
prediction seriously. They aren’t a science based news organization. The
Pacific Rim is always tectonically active.

Cheers!

Re: [HOT] Emergency Mapathon in Burlington, VT - Ecuador Earthquake

2016-04-18 Thread Suzan Reed
Please let me know if there are any glaring errors! Suzan 3 steps to mapping buildings using iD Look for videos by Blake Girardot on Youtube for more information.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=042TbopS7HMRead the Introduction AND the Instructions carefully before Contributing. Using either a mouse or a trackpad (if you are accurate with your fingers), select a tile in the Tasking Manager and begin mapping. Zoom in to 40% using the + key. This will increase your accuracy. 1. Using the Area toola. Trace the exact outline of the building touching all four corners. Accuracy is important. b. Identify a Building by the shadow it casts and the color of the roof. c. Buildings are often close together so be sure the corners do not touch (gray dot). d. Draw your Building as square as possible. Don’t make odd shapes. 2. On the left side of the Tasking Manager look for Building Features.
Scroll down to Building and click. a. This will designate your trace as a Building. 3. Next, while the Building is still selected, press the ’s’ key.
This squares the building and is an important step that must be done. a. If the building isn’t selected when ’s’ is pressed, “shed” will show. Go back and reselect the building and then press ’s’ again. Tips: Always square buildings!Save your work after tracing 10 to 20 Buildings. Save often! Keep track of your time. Log out (Stop Mapping button on the previous tab) every hour.
You can then log back in to continue working on that tile. Don’t go off of your tile! Stay within the magenta square. It’s OK to map a building
that’s slightly over the line. Work on a tile at 40% zoom for accuracy. Use your right hand to trace buildings and to click on Building while your
left hand hovers over the ’s’ key. Any questions? Ask!A PDF of these instructions is available. Please email me. Hope this helps! Suzan

I am not sure where it should go in the instructions, but we want the base
of the building as it sits on the ground, not as it appears to the
satellite. For example, if a building has a peaked roof and the satellite
is not directly overhead ("off nadir"), the roof will make it look like one
end of the building is triangular. We don't want that triangle traced.
