[HOT] EDIT for Summit WG

2017-03-23 Thread Rachel VanNice
To those interested,
We'll actually divert from usual 11-12 mtg. time to *12-13 EST* so that
those who'd like to be on the Tasking Mgr. 3 Update call can attend that as
well.
Thanks,
Rachel

Re: [HOT] Optimal NAS tech specifications to serve imagery tiles

2017-03-23 Thread john whelan
I think we need to define the requirements first. POSM works on standard
hardware in a standard configuration. It's been field tested and you learn
from experience.

It needs to be fairly idiot proof and unfortunately they're turning out
better quality idiots all the time. It needs good simple documentation in
multiple languages. Idiots have been spotted using languages other than
English.

I think I'd think in terms of a more powerful intel NUC than the base, the
32 gigs memory version of the NUC6i7KYK is used with POSM for drone work.
I would stay with the intel NUCs based on my own experince

I'd like to add email so preconfigured Postfix should be able to handle
local traffic on smartphones but you also need something on the smart
phone, I understand the gmail client can be configured to talk to other
email servers such as Postfix. The advantage is it would store messages
until the server is in range then send and receive.

Postfix can be configured to call home but I'd try to think in terms of
calling back to one email server across the internet and exchanging
messages. These can be forwarded to other internet addresses.

Finally we need a volunteer in the field to try this stuff out. A HOT
micro-grant might well work here.

It's not cheap ($60,000) per their press pack:

This is why I specifically mentioned partnering...

2017-03-23 Thread Donal Hunt
It occurs to me that partnering with a team like Ideas Box (see
https://www.ideas-box.org/
)
may be the way to go here... If the HOT tool-chain could be pre-installed /
integrated it would make the deployment of such kits more beneficial in the
longer run (deployed at the start of a disaster and then continues to
deliver value to the community over time due to the availability of
knowledge, etc).

Obviously, the deployment is a lot heavier than a simple NAS but it's
likely you want a robust solution that is well tested in most scenarios.

All the best!

Re: [HOT] POSM

2017-03-23 Thread john whelan
Well after switching the boot method on the laptop to EUFI it seems to
install. However I'm left with a prompt of POSM login: and I've no idea
what to type. I'll drop something in on Github.

Thanks John
