[Hugin-devs] [Bug 1801519] Re: Importing DNG files using RawTherapee fails

2018-11-04 Thread Bicyclops
I just found a bug in RawTherapee which lead to corrupt saved images
when the bit depth was not explicitly specified. Fixing it now for
RawTherapee 5.5, but I would recommend that Hugin specifies it
explicitly.

Title:
Importing DNG files using RawTherapee fails

Status in Hugin:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I clicked on Edit > Import Raw Files, changed the filter to "All files

Converter 11.0), clicked "Import", and it failed with:

  Executing: /home/morgan/programs/rawtherapee/rawtherapee-cli -O
/home/morgan/photos/2018-10-17/2018-10-17\ 1\ 03.tif -p /tmp/rt.pp3 -s -p
/tmp/.mount_Hugin_obDWOJ/usr/share/hugin/datahugin_rt.pp3 -tz -Y -c

  RawTherapee, version 5.4-1075-gd75741a99, command line.
  Error: "/tmp/.mount_Hugin_obDWOJ/usr/share/hugin/datahugin_rt.pp3" not found.

  What is datahugin_rt.pp3?

  Recommendations:
  1. Hugin should allow the user to specify a custom processing profile, or use
the one alongside the file if one exists. And it does - good! It does so thanks
to specifying a custom -p before -s.
  2. Use uncompressed 16-bit TIFF files as intermediate files, because they are
fast to write and the user loses no image quality along the way. Hugin does not
handle 32-bit files correctly yet.

Changing the above command as needed, the final command should look as
  follows:

  "${HOME}/programs/rawtherapee/rawtherapee-cli" -O "/tmp/2018-10-17 1
  03.tif" -p /tmp/rt.pp3 -s -b16 -t -Y -c

The system theme? I'm using Breeze-Dark, not sure where it got the white
from.

True, but maybe graphite #262626 or CIELAB medium gray #77 would be
less eye-sore.

Confirmed that the default filter setting, "All image files", does not

P.S. The capitalization here is wrong, it currently is "All Image

Don't accept DNG or any raw files using Add Images window

Bug description:
  Hello, I'm Morgan from RawTherapee.

  Testing Hugin_Panorama_Creator-git-20181103-x86_64.AppImage for its
integration with RawTherapee. I'll open separate issues for things I
  notice.

Edit > Add Images, Hugin accepted raw files as input. Some raw file
formats such as Canon's CR2 crash Hugin, some formats such as
Fujifilm's RAF are rejected, while other formats such as NEF and DNG
are opened and their embedded thumbnails are used.

This is wrong, and there are two possible solutions:
  1. Do not accept any raw files in the Edit > Add Images dialog.
  2. Do accept raw images in the Edit > Add Images dialog, but when the user
clicks "Open" then automatically switch over to the "Import raw files" window.

Sounds good.

As these file are nothing more than intermediate files and therefore
storage space is of no concern, I recommend no compression to save time.

You're right, and I just checked and confirm. Personally I like to
specify things explicitly.

  "/home/morgan/photos/2018-10-17/2018-10-17 1 03.dng"

[Hugin-devs] [Bug 1801513] [NEW] RawTherapee - specify processing profile

2018-11-03 Thread Bicyclops
Public bug reported:

The Import Raw Images window has a RawTherapee tab with a textbox called
"Default history stack". We don't use the term "history stack", and in
fact RawTherapee has a history panel which is never saved, so this term
would confuse users.

I would suggest renaming "Default history stack" to "Processing
profile".

[Hugin-devs] [Bug 1801512] [NEW] Import Raw Files raw filter is broken

2018-11-03 Thread Bicyclops
Public bug reported:

I tried Edit > Import raw files. The Import Raw Files window opens. I'm
in a test-folder with raw files from many camera makes and models, many
raw formats, including DNG. The filter is set to "RAW files" (incorrect
capitalization), but no raw files are shown. When I change the filter to
"All files (*)" then it shows them.

In fact, when the filter is set to raw files, the only things visible in
the window are folders. I couldn't get a single file to appear.

[Hugin-devs] [Bug 1801510] [NEW] Fix capitalization of the word "raw"

2018-11-03 Thread Bicyclops
Public bug reported:

The word "raw" is an ordinary noun/adjective, as in "a raw carrot", "a
raw image", and as such it should be capitalized "raw", not "RAW" as it
is not an acronym nor an abbreviation.

When used in sentence case: "Open raw photo"
When used in title case: "Open Raw Photo"

Places I noticed where it's incorrectly capitalized:
1. "Edit > Import RAW File(s)..."
2. The window which pops up when you click "Edit > Import RAW File(s)..." has
incorrect capitalization in the title. Since it's a title it should use title
case, so it should be "Import Raw Files".

[Hugin-devs] [Bug 1801509] [NEW] Don't accept DNG or any raw files using Add Images window

2018-11-03 Thread Bicyclops
Public bug reported:

Hello, I'm Morgan from RawTherapee.

Testing Hugin_Panorama_Creator-git-20181103-x86_64.AppImage for its
integration with RawTherapee. I'll open separate issues for things I
notice.

Edit > Add Images, Hugin accepted raw files as input. Some raw file
formats such as Canon's CR2 crash Hugin, some formats such as Fujifilm's
RAF are rejected, while other formats such as NEF and DNG are opened and
their embedded thumbnails are used.

This is wrong, and there are two possible solutions:
1. Do not accept any raw files in the Edit > Add Images dialog.
2. Do accept raw images in the Edit > Add Images dialog, but when the user
clicks "Open" then automatically switch over to the "Import raw files" window.

It looks silly; this isn't news. It would look better if you either

Furthermore, if I read that Hugin is more than just a panorama

such paragraph anywhere on the site. There actually is no "about"

say the GTK3 build is generally better than the GTK2 one, and actively
maintained? If so, then I'll open a ticket to have the Hugin use GTK3 in

2018-08-06 Thread Bicyclops

Are you sure this is a duplicate of that issue from 2011? I'm not
requesting preview tonemapping (which would be nice, but is a separate
topic). Some of the images do preview correctly in OpenGL, but others
are completely black - that behavior resembles a bug.

2018-08-06 Thread Bicyclops
Public bug reported:

Hello

The cyan grid in the OpenGL preview is very fat and very distracting.
How can I change the color to something less distracting, and change the

[Hugin-devs] [Bug 1785553] Re: Wrong gamma of 32-bit float images in Control Points editor

2018-08-06 Thread Bicyclops
The curve setting in "Preferences > Control Points Editor > HDR and 16
Bit display" does affect the preview in the CP editor, however the
magnifier (which appears when placing a control point) is always black
on these 32-bit images, regardless which "HDR and 16 Bit display" curve
setting I use.

[Hugin-devs] [Bug 1785553] [NEW] Wrong gamma of 32-bit float images in Control Points editor

dynamic range compression and increasing exposure. If that's the case,
then nice, but the large CP editor magnification box, the one that

[Hugin-devs] [Bug 1414134] Re: Hugin should remember last used destination folder

2015-01-28 Thread Bicyclops
The last used directory when clicking Stitch! is just that. It has
nothing to do with using any component from the command line or any
other button from the UI. It can be stored in Hugin's configuration
file.

Thank you for the workaround of using a path in the output prefix.

In one instance of Hugin I add an equirectangular image, reproject it to
linear and render it to a folder, say /home/bob/photos/panoramas/foo

I use hugin_stitch_project so that I don't have to do the annoying and of no
use to me step of saving the project.
The problem is that I need to go to /home/bob/photos/panoramas/foo every time
I click Stitch!. Hugin should remember the last-used folder - it does not.
The default output prefix in Preferences is %projectname but seeing as I
did not save the project, the last-used folder should be remembered.

So one solution is for Hugin to remember the last-used folder when the
project has not been saved. Another solution is for a %lastused
option to be added to the default output prefixes.

[Hugin-devs] [Bug 1405035] Re: Saved TIFF contains only one of the source images

2014-12-23 Thread Bicyclops
Well they certainly overlap. I don't have a PTO at hand but you could easily
reproduce it.
Saving remapped images works, so I merge them in GIMP.

Is it possible to render to a TIFF or XCF file *with the remapped images
in their correct places*?

I got the TIFFs from Hugin, then did some healing in GIMP-git, then
imported back into Hugin. Either GIMP screwed the tags up, or Hugin did
when I first saved them.

I have downgraded to Hugin 2014.0.0 for now due to that annoying alpha
layer bug. I will report back when I get the same warnings and this time
I'll make sure where they come from.

p.s. using tiff-4.0.3

[Hugin-devs] [Bug 1405039] [NEW] Should be possible to work in only one window

2014-12-22 Thread Bicyclops
Public bug reported:

Saving a remapped image results in 4 (!) windows being opened:
http://i.imgur.com/51u28rp.png
The main Hugin window, the Batch Processor window, and two other windows. One
of them, the one in the top-left corner, appears for a few seconds with no
meaningful content, and then disappears. It seems to do that for every source
image in the pano.

In addition to the obvious, this is a pain in the ass because all these
windows flashing on and off mean I can't work on something else while
Hugin renders because I keep being interrupted and focus keeps being
stolen.

[Hugin-devs] [Bug 1400254] [NEW] Request for Peirce quincuncial projection

2014-12-08 Thread Bicyclops
Public bug reported:

Hey!

This is a feature request for a Peirce quincuncial projection:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peirce_quincuncial_projection

Equirectangular seems to be the most common type of projection for
storing panoramas, yes it is horrible for this purpose. Distortion
increases as you move further from the equator, and so the size and
distribution of pixels from the original source image (whether fisheye
or rectilinear) when forward-mapped into an equirectangular projection
varies wildly - this makes it a horrible projection considering how JPEG
compression works, considering one may want to denoise the panorama or
sharpen it, etc.

The Peirce quincuncial projection has very limited distortion. From
Wikipedia, The part where the exaggeration of scale amounts to double
that at the centre is only 9% of the area of the sphere, against 13% for
the Mercator projection and 50% for the stereographic projection. When
used in cartography, it gives an honest representation of the globe.
When used for aesthetic purposes in panoramas, it gives a unique and
interesting look.

Please consider adding the Peirce quincuncial projection to Hugin.

Please increase the GPU preview image's resolution, and/or make it user-
adjustable, so those people whose GPUs can handle larger images don't
have to suffer with such horrible preview quality:

[Hugin-devs] [Bug 1356984] Re: Increase GPU preview image resolution and/or make it user-adjustable

2014-08-14 Thread Bicyclops
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 679797 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/679797

Coding zoom functionality is significantly more work than coding a
slider or combobox where one can choose the resolution. The former is
unlikely to get implemented any time soon - that issue (bug #679797) has
been open since 2005 and nothing has been done. I'd rather my report was
not binned together with that one, as my simple request requires far
less work and therefore is more likely to be implemented.

[Hugin-devs] [Bug 1301922] [NEW] Fast panorama editor very cumbersome to use

2014-04-03 Thread Bicyclops
Public bug reported:

I want to suggest a few changes to the Fast Panorama Editor's interface
which will vastly improve usability and shorten time spent working in
it. Some parts of Hugin today in 2014 look like they've been designed
either many years ago and bits and pieces were kept being added on
without much concern for the overall appearance, or like it was designed
to run on a small-screen phone. Luckily this can all be quickly fixed
without much coding, just rearranging existing things.

Currently there are six tabs in the Fast Panorama Editor, and clicking through
them is a waste of time. Let's fix this:
Assistant: input image control (projection, focal, sensor scale multiplier)
Preview: a bunch of preview settings.
Layout: it's a whole tab when in fact it is exactly one slider. A whole tab for
a slider!
Projection: output image control (projection, FOV, guides).
Move/Drag: synonyms in the tab's name, y/p/r, again guides,
center/fit/straighten.
Crop: manual, auto, again guides.

AT THE VERY LEAST let us move the images from the same tab we can change
projection and crop from!

To properly fix this, delete the tabs, they're a bad idea, they waste
screen space like crazy, and merge things.

Unified Fast Panorama Editor (UFPE).
Consists of three main elements: the image control panels (two of them, one for
input, one for output), the preview, and the preview controls.

The first element, input/output image controls. Two panels (frames? not sure of
the nomenclature in QT) at the top or on the left of the UFPE (depends on your
screen aspect ratio, let them float so the user can choose), keep things small,
don't waste space.
First panel is your source image panel:
[+] to load images (no need for a 100 pixel long button!), [-] to remove
currently selected image (click on it on the preview to select it).
  Source image projection selector combobox.
  Source image focal inputbox.
Source image sensor size multiplier inputbox.
Second panel is your output image panel:
  Projection selector combobox.
Projection parameters if any are needed (sliders for e.g. Panini)
  [Straighten] button.
Yaw/pitch/roll numerical inputboxes of currently selected image or whole pano
if none selected.
  Crop sub-panel
[Fit inside] auto-crop button (i.e. no black edges).
[Fit outside] auto-crop button (i.e. with black edges).
Crop numerical inputboxes.

Second element, the main panorama preview. Click on an image to select
it. Click+drag to... drag it. Right-click for a context menu if needed.
ZOOM IN/OUT USING THE MOUSE; using the sliders as is currently needed is
highly inefficient :] Add [+][-] buttons

Third element, at the bottom of the window, is the preview control:
Exposure, photometrics, show CPs, identify, blabla, guides, grid, scale.

Everything on one screen, everything fits even on 1024x768, panels can
be detached and floated. Less than a day's work for someone familiar
with that window, because there is not much code to be written, just a
bunch of things to be moved and a whole bunch of code to delete.

[Hugin-devs] [Bug 1247498] [NEW] Hugin is more than just a panorama stitcher. ORLY?

2013-11-02 Thread Bicyclops
Public bug reported:

The News section lists Hugin version releases since 2010 with a
description that reads Hugin is more than just a panorama stitcher. It
looks silly; this isn't news. It would look better if you either had a
proper and unique description under each release, or removed that line
altogether. http://i.imgur.com/YlSJrJd.png

Furthermore, if I read that Hugin is more than just a panorama stitcher,
I would expect this to be an introductory statement to a paragraph that
goes on to enunciate what else Hugin is. I can find no such paragraph
anywhere on the site. There actually is no about section.
