In the optimizer tab only the list items can be selected. Allowing individual checkboxes to be selected would require a big change in the underlying control. In the optimizer tab shift+click (and also ctrl+click) works already for selecting several items (tested again on Windows and LUbuntu). In the fast preview window this can't be implemented. There are individual buttons for each image.
