So it seems that CPFind is getting errors after 7 (16mp) images? I don't
think it is a RAM issue, I have 8GB. Also note that no control points are
added. Settings for CPFind are default.

This sounds very odd to me. I (like many others) use cpfind on a
regular basis with various lenses and it never fails me. I'd be
curious to have a look at your images for which it couldn't find CPs.
Do you have a way of putting them online somewhere (two are enough) so
I could have a look?

I'd also be curious to know which version of cpfind you use. Cpfind is
quite a recent development, and if you're using an early stage it may
well fail, while a recent version would work. You can find out the
version by calling

cpfind --version

on the command line.

Finally, the result of cpfind depends on the parameters it's called
with. Since you seem keen on finding many CPs, you could try and use
my favourite setting (from the hugin preferences):

--fullscale --sieve2size 5 -o %o %s

CPFind worked for one panorama, that was taken with a 100mm lens. So, very
little distortion across the images.
But for a panorama I took at 24mm, it couldn't find even a single CP. I
just used Carlos' autopano-sift-c with the same set of images, and the
outcome was 327 CPs. That is a huge difference, and now I am able to
assemble this panorama almost automatically. Thanks for the file Carlos!

The strange thing is other images taken at the same time and the same

Hmm, have you tried reconverting the images? Or converting them with
something else? And see if the problem goes away.

I've sometimes had Bibble Light generate some images with mangled EXIF

Interesting, from that I started looking around and found that when I
turn on the distortion correction in DPP it will cause the image size
to change. No distortion correction and all the images come out the
same size, turn it on and the size changes and it's not consistent.

In this case, align_image_stack is rightfully complaining. It looks like
something went funky when exporting the first image: it is slightly larger
than the other 2.

Using imagemagick to verify sizes:

identify *.jpg

[hugin-ptx] align_image_stack crashes

2011-11-29 Thread kevin
I'm trying to align 3 jpg image files, these were converted from raw
using Canon DPP. When I run:

align_image_stack img_1579.jpg img_1580.jpg img_1581.jpg -a prefix

the error I get back is:

ContractViolation:
Precondition violation!
RemappedPanoImage::remapImage(): image sizes
not consistent

ERROR: caught exception:
Precondition violation!
RemappedPanoImage::remapImage(): image sizes
not consistent

The strange thing is other images taken at the same time and the same
orientation converted with the same version of DPP work fine.

The version I'm running is:
align_image_stack version Pre-Release 2011.5.0.dfe005333233

and this is on a slackware 64-bit machine. The image files that are
causing the problems can be found here:

I think Tim is right with his assumption.
However, his solution will not solve the problem as the current
wxwindows(=wxmac=wxwidgets) is version 2.8.12 which can't be built as 64bit
on MacOSX. Wxwidgets 2.9.x is the first version that can be built as 64bit
on OSX (see below for 2.9).
This 2.8 version restriction again means that you need to build hugin as
32bits as well, hence the -arch i386 flag.

You use macports. Normally macports is not built as Universal (= multiple
archs) and will default to the "native" architecture which is since the
second generation Intels on snow Leopard and newer always 64bit.
To be able to compile Hugin on Intels running SnowLeopard or newer you need
to compile macports ports as universal.
This is automatically done with the switch:

# CPU architectures to use for Universal Binaries (+universal variant)
universal_archs x86_64 i386

This switch should be placed in your /opt/local/etc/macports/macports.conf.

It's in the section:

# CPU architecture to compile for. Defaults to i386 or ppc on Mac OS X 10.5
# and earlier, depending on the CPU type detected at runtime. On Mac OS X
10.6
# the default is x86_64 if the CPU supports it, i386 otherwise.
#build_arch x86_64
#build_arch i386

# CPU architectures to use for Universal Binaries (+universal variant)
universal_archs x86_64 i386

Of course your libs and binaries will be twice as big but applications that
can run in 64bit will do so and the others will run as 32bits.

I will update the wiki. It was quite obvious for me so I didn't even think
of it.
Sorry.

If you are daring enough you could also install the 2.9.x wxwidgets
development version. (sudo port install wxWidgets-devel), which is
currently at 2.9.2. In that case you can try to compile Hugin as 64bit,
which means without the -arch i386 switch. I did not try that yet as the
2.9 did not work with other tools I use.

Well, nor autopano-sift-c work everytime. That's why I usually mark 2 or 3

We don't really use autopano-sift-c much nowadays, since the control
point generator that is distributed with hugin (it's called cpfind)
usually does a very good job, and autopano-sift-c uses a patent-
encumbered algorithm. So I recommend you use cpfind unless you have a
very good reason not to.

[hugin-ptx] autopano-sift-c

2011-11-29 Thread Adam Weld
Hi, it looks like this file is needed for Hugin to automatically find
control points. I am running Windows 7 x64.
I cannot find a download location for this file, I have looked through
many threads but the links are all broken.
The Hugin SourceForge has a download, but this version is not built.
Can anyone tell me how to build the SourceForge version, or provide a
download link? Without the functionality to automatically find control
points, Hugin does not work for me.
