[hugin-ptx] Lens calibration trouble: cannot optimize

2013-03-13 Thread Peter Suetterlin

  Hello list,

I recently bought a new lens that I'd like to calibrate for lensfun/hugin.
I thought that might be a nice point to also try the latest hugin from the
repository. However, now I'm stuck with the new GUI.

As suggested in the tutorial, I took an image of a building with nice straight
features and marked (even) three lines across the image - but there's no way
to optimize. There are no tabs, and the menu entries for optimize (and
exposure) in the 'View' menue are greyed out.

So what now? Revert to my old 2011 version? That cannot be the solution

  Pit

Hi Pt,

I'm not yet acquainted with the new interface, but you should try the
'advanced' or the 'expert' modes. Problably you started in the 'basic' and
simpler mode, where many features are hidden.

Yes, I can confirm: here, using the 'advanced interface', in the photos
tab, at the bottom, I see the optimizer options, for geometry and for
photometry.

I have to do some more tests and ask/report here, but in my last project,
using linux and a self compiled hugin, the photometric optimization crashed
the program in my 2 or 3 tries...

bye,

Luís Henrique

  Holá Luís,

No, I'm running in Expert mode. And for some other images I do get the
optimizer/exposure tabs. But not for this one.
It looks like it could be related to the number/quality(?) of the control
points. But I do have 40 cp pairs, this is more than enough to fit 3
parameters, and the old hugin does this fit nicely.

Ha, but now the fun part. After having optimized in the old version (and
saved the pto file), re-opening it with the recent version *does* give me the
two tabs.

Ahh - now I get it. The tabs are only shown when 'custom parameters' are
selected in the 'Optimize' part of the Photos tab. And it's really difficult
to get to the numbers in reasonable accuracy. Guess it takes quite some time
to get used to this improved GUI :-/

Thanks for putting m on the right track!

Cheers,

  Pit
