[IAEP] Worst practice in ICT use in education

2010-07-28 Thread Christoph Derndorfer
Hi all,

I just rediscovered the "Worst practice in ICT use in education" entry
on the World Bank's EduTech blog and thought that it might be a good
reminder for everyone to sometimes take a step back and observe the
project(s) we're involved in:

http://blogs.worldbank.org/edutech/worst-practice

Cheers,
Christoph
P.S. I've set myself a monthly reminder to re-read that text on a
regular basis;-)

The software on this tablet is Android. Given that there already is a Squeak
Virtual Machine for Android, it is not infeasible (though still quite some
work) to make Etoys run:

http://news.squeak.org/2010/02/13/squeak-on-android/

However, even if it was running, it would not really be usable. Touch screens
require a serious redesign of the user interface if the original design was
mouse-focused.

Re: [IAEP] Redesigning: Library, Read, Get-Books, and Content bundles

Daniel,

I like the ideas you posted there. I left some specific comments:
http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Talk:Features/Content_support

Reuben:

I don't know how synchronous would work - but that sounds like a
feature for bookreaders.

Asynchronously, there are regular requests for both a "share [file]
with [target]" feature
   http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/8171

and a way to share public Journal items constantly while online; as
comes up in both "global shared datastore" and "share files over the
mesh" discussions.

[IAEP] Miguel Brechner presents Plan Ceibal at TEDxBuenosAires

2010-07-28 Thread Christoph Derndorfer
Hi,

I haven't seen this one being mentioned on the mailing-lists and since
it's very well worth watching I thought some here might be interested in
it as well:

2010-07-28 Thread Lucian Branescu
You'd have to install a more vanilla linux on that machine to get any
Sugar activities running on it.

ASE is mostly a toy, allowing you to run simple scripts. Android =>
Java, no way around it.

Android is kin to Linux with a heavy dose of Java. Sugar tends to be more
Pythonic than Java-esque, but perhaps the Android Scripting Environment
(ASE) can mitigate some of that...

Has someone already asked this? If so, forgive me

Is there any chance of getting Sugar Activities to run on this gadget? They
might be put on an SD card. Maybe just certain favorites like eToys and
TurtleArt.
