Re: [IAEP] planet.sugarlabs.org html/css redesign
I can't assist with CSS, but what would be helpful would be to make the changes I suggested back in 2009 [1]. Developers know what a planet is and does, but to anyone else, it's not clear at all that sugarlabs.org is not the original publisher of the blog posts. I still have no idea if updated blog posts are re-aggregated to the planet or not. [IAEP] Tools for the community meeting
Last Wednesday we had an IRC meeting for analyzing which tools would be useful to build for the community. Meeting log is in http://meeting.sugarlabs.org/sugar-meeting/meetings/2011-01-26T21:06:33. Here are my highlights: Centralized Authentication (CAS) - The current multitude of accounts for services at Sugar Labs (and related organisations) is considered an obstacle to participation. We should work on a seamless / automatic log-in system, though the priority of this is not yet clear - Sascha is already working on CAS for sugarlabs.org sites, so it's an ongoing project (he'll write up an overview of how his imagined seamless login system is going to work, so others are able to join the effort if they like to) Metadata, data aggregation and search tools: - The holly grial would be to have a centralized aggregator where one could see at a glance what's happening around in the community. Even better if all information was correctly tagged. However, it's not easy to implement the idea. - This would be useful for all kind of users (developers, educators, ...). For instance JT4sugar suggests for information around Teaching is to have information separated into Age/Grade level. Other ideas suggested: - Making a portal for sharing info - autotranslation of some of the mailing lists, like sur-sur-en and iaep-iaep-es (we already have a web-to-IRC gateway and IRC translation, both courtesy of alsroot) - share/maintain list of known blogs, so bloggers can screen and promote what they find interesting Next meeting: We're continuing the discussion next Wednesday at the same time (9PM UTC, 4PM EST) in #sugar-meeting. I'd like to focus on the idea of making a portal for sharing info. Which info should it have? Should it aggregate info and/or receive users contributions? How can it be easy to contribute there? How can we keep info organized? All feedback is welcome! Saludos, Pablo Flores ___ IAEP -- It's An Education Project (not a laptop project!) [IAEP] Another Etoys Question
OK, so I have watched the tutorials and even looked at 2 books I have about Squeak and still haven't found out how to make a multi-page book or slide show like we want to do for the Water Lessons. Innocent that I am, I assumed that clicking on the page symbol (looks like a page symbol used in other programs) would give me a new page. I got what I thought was a new page. Constructed it and saved. Then I discovered it created a new project, not a new page! Rats! Oh well, the page I lost was just the title page and it will be easy to remake it. However I would like to keep the second page I made, put the title page before it and then add several more pages after. Is there a link to instructions for doing this? I don't need to learn about loops, variables, tiles and stuff like that... already know that and can, and have, taught it. Caryl ___ IAEP -- It's An Education Project (not a laptop project!) probably Google is used to telling you what you want to hear ... :-) I see it as #8 http://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntuchannel=fsq=sugar+planetie=utf-8oe=utf-8 Searching for sugar planet now returns the planet as first result both in Google and in Duckduckgo. It's still a low hit for sugar blogs or sugar labs blogs. IMHO the blurb is good, if maybe too long and cigarette-advisory look (which means hard to read, as design goes) People who know won't care about the blurb, except the minimalists who gave us unrecognizable icons for the wireless channels, noobs will find it reassuring, and it is a good thing that Google for example shows the first lines - otherwise I'd have no idea this is it, unless I went to guess the links... BTW, why is it that the first article is from Sept 6 2010? Also, I see no link to archives. Is this going to run forever as a single page or should older entries be accessible somehow? /Planet Sugar/ http://planet.sugarlabs.org/ /Planet Sugar/ is a collection of personal blogs by /Sugar/ Labs contributors. /Sugar/ Labs is a world-wide organization of passionate people working together to *...* *planet*.*sugar*labs.org/ ___ IAEP -- It's An Education Project (not a laptop project!) Re: [IAEP] [support-gang] Another Etoys Question
Have they changed the passwords and user names since last summer? I helped write the original XO manual and worked on the Spanish translation of the Activities manual. Tonight I can't sign in and the Etoys book doesn't seem to be available in the Read mode. I asked for my password via email and it did not recognize either of my email addresses. It is better to use the new link, the old one will probably be removed sometime in the future. As for the translation, we'll have to find out how to setup a spanish version. We should do it on booki, too. I'll find out how to start it. Greetings,Rita On Jan 31, 2011, at 10:54 PM, Cherry Withers wrote:Ooops...so sorry...correction..I didn't write the chapter! It needs editing and we would appreciate all the feedback that we can get. If you'd like to spearhead the effort of translating it to Spanish, it will be most appreciated! What is the status of the manual? At one point I had volunteered to translate it into Spanish. Then there were other volunteers, then there was some other book and then no more talk. My offer is still on. Is there anything you think I could start translating about Etoys? I would really like to know if there's anything at all that's unclear about what I wrote. I would also be happy to go through it with you on Skype at your convenience. Then click on the Triangle in the upper left corner of the book (when you hover over it it will say More Controls. You will then be able to add pages by clicking on the + in the Book header and you can also duplicate pages from the menu in the header. More details are in the Etoy floss manual Chapter 5 http://en.flossmanuals.net/bin/view/Etoys/Objects (search for book within the page). Caryl ___ IAEP -- It's An Education Project (not a laptop project!)
