[IAEP] [Marketing] Users cannot find Sugar with gnome-software in Fedora 20

2014-08-29 Thread Iain Brown Douglas
GNOME Software Center, or Software [1] is the default software installer
for Fedora 20.

Sugar is not found in a search of Software.

Richard Hughes, the owner of Fedora's Changes/AppInstaller [2], put out
a call [3] for maintainers to ship an AppData specification [4], so that
Software will find registered apps.

I asked Richard how I could help fix this and this is from his reply.

[quote]
I assume you want to show the sugar-runner application.
According to

https://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/screenshots/f21/failed.html#sugar-runner.desktop
it's missing a Comment in the .desktop file that means we just can't show it
in the search results. It's also missing an AppData file, so a long description
and some screenshots.

If you fix up the .desktop file, and/or add an AppData file that
validates, then do a build+update for f21 then it should
re-appear in the search results after a couple of days.

Hope this helps,

Richard

Is anyone already working on this?

Is a good point Iain. Can you help us with this?
If you send a AppData file, I can help with the packaging.

Thank you for the packaging offer.

How will you participate in the upcoming OLPC San Francisco Community
Summit 2014? Let us know, so we can plan accordingly.

 Cheers,

I got a few queries on how we were planning to run the event online.
We are working on setting up an instance of Summit Scheduler. This
platform is used by Ubuntu to run their online summits for each
release. You can see an instance of Summit Scheduler in action for
their summits at http://summit.ubuntu.com/

Summit Scheduler relies on Google Hangouts for organizing the live
sessions. The session presenters use a Google Hangout setup. The
attendees use a Youtube live stream to watch and IRC to ask
questions/participate. Once done, the sessions will be available on
Youtube later. Mike Lee has agreed to be the Director of the Google
Hangouts process with tips and tricks on how best to run these
sessions. The submission of proposals, organization of the calendar,
timing etc. is all done by the Summit Scheduler. Aaron Borden is
working on setting up a version of the Summit Scheduler with our own
branding/colors etc.

The code and instructions for Summit Scheduler can be found at
http://summit.readthedocs.org/en/latest/

Do let me know if you have any other questions.

cheers,
Sameer
