Re: [IAEP] Funds/Marketing

2017-02-14 Thread Samson Goddy
Re the marketing plan, i also came up with the idea of creating awareness
to the public on what SugarLabs is doing. Because most of them believe that
Sugar only runs on xos.

So Dave and I created a motion which will get potentially users,
Developers, parents, teachers to know more about Sugar; how sugar works.
Social media is also one of the major way to draw attention down to Sugar.
So we then to draw inspiration from Scratch foundation. See link below!

[IAEP] Kindle for $40

2017-02-14 Thread Caryl Bigenho
Hi...

For those of you wanting to do classroom deployments of Sugar, the 7" Kindle
Fire Tablets are on sale again for $39.99. They now come in 4 colors... Black,
Magenta, Blue, and Tangerine. Sugarizer works well on them. These do include
ads on the sleep screen but they do not interrupt once you unlock.

Caryl

P.S. You can put the Google Play store on it and get both ScratchJr and PBS
Kids ScratchJr for free.

The entirety is General Funds. 2013's Trip Advisor's 2-years of funding
were contractually expected (if not required) to have been spent by
July/August 2015, when a report was due towards receiving an additional
$40,000 from Trip Advisor for a 3rd and final year (Sugar Labs did not send
this report it seems, hence those final $40,000 did not arrive).

Even before July/August 2015, Trip Advisor funds were fully fungible (Sugar
Labs General Funds) according to Software Freedom Conservancy Executive
Director Karen Sandler, who checked with her lawyer. Of course honoring
the general intent of the mid-2013 to mid-2015 grant (long since lapsed in
2017) would still be respectful of Trip Advisor's intentions where we can.

Thank you and kind regards,

Adam,

Before board members get to vote on General Funds, can you please share the
current balance of the General Funds account?

Last meeting you mentioned Sugar Labs counts with ~US$80,983.40 in total,
still some percentage of that balance might still corresponds to the 2013
Trip Advisor grant.

Can you please specify.

Thank you and kind regards,

Laura Victoria

Re: [IAEP] Funds/Marketing

2017-02-14 Thread Laura Vargas
Hi all! Hola a todos!

I'm happy to share with everybody there has been an initiative by Samson
supported by the board to come with a* Funding and Marketing Plan for Sugar
Labs!*

Please confirm if there is someone already working on such or similar Plan?

Because we need to document better, I believe, our Marketing and Funding
Plan should take us in the road to by default support community needs while
developing artistic communication elements.

Summarizing the best I can last year's discussion about Marketing, Samson
and Ibiam agreed with "*We should be able to speak about Sugar deployments
as we now speak about OLPC deployments. Sugar should be available for PCs
and mobile devices with xo being considered as one of the supported
environments" *Tony Anderson's idea. I agree too.

Summarizing also the best I can, every year need of funding, it has become
clear Sugar Labs Project basically requires:

[1] To sponsor any motivated, active individuals in need to continue doing
the best they can to support our mission.

[2] To make sure our servers are safe and our systems are distributed.

We are here requesting all contributions from past, present and future
members! we know we are all here because we ♥libre-software, have good
intentions and a noble cause.

As I see it, the first step is that we all agree if we work this
documentation in the wiki or on a shared pad.

Sorry for the long email! Blessings and regards :D
