Hello folks, One Laptop Per Child San Francisco is hosting the annual Community Summit this weekend, October 23-25th 2015[1] at San Francisco State University, 1600 Holloway Avenue, Business Building room 202 in San Francisco, CA. OLPC San Francisco Community Summit 2015 is a community event that brings together educators, technologists, anthropologists, enthusiasts, champions and volunteers. We share stories, exchange ideas, solve problems, foster community and build collaboration around the One Laptop per Child project and its mission worldwide. On Friday evening, we will be screening WEB[3] at 5pm. The documentary follows Peruvian families living in remote villages in the Amazon Jungle and Andes Mountains as their children experience the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) program, gaining access to the Internet for the first time. WEB considers both the benefits and complications that arise from digital connections. OLPC-SF has opened proposal submission for the 2015 Community Summit to be held in San Francisco, California during the weekend of October 23-25. Submission form here: http://www.olpcsf.org/CommunitySummit2015/proposal The theme for this year's Summit is OLPC: The Next Generation. Workshop topics should fall within the theme, for example, offline content, micro-servers, power solutions, forward-looking education curricula. They will last for 60-75 minutes. Presenters may be present virtually or in-person. Group-organized workshops are very much encouraged. We would like to see sessions that include deployments from different parts of the world, with discussion of similarities and differences. While this is great news for students and educators in under-served areas, this ubiquity can also be a problem. With so many options; how are these institutions and local people supposed to effectively discern which solution is "best"? How is the superlative “best” defined in this case? What criteria should people (with zero to little technical experience) base their microserver research and judgement on? Even if a substantial amount of potential microserver clientèle knew (and was able to execute) an effective research methodology, would a trial-and-error process involving testing all “viable” solutions be an efficient use of time? In this presentation Ian Craig (SFSU student and intern at Inveneo), will discuss different off-the-shelf solutions and how these compare across the board using multiple criteria. [IAEP] OLPC-SF Community Summit and Turtle Art Day
Great news! We're excited to announce that Turtle Art Day[1] will be held in conjunction with this year's Community Summit[2] this weekend! Our summit will be focused on the intersection of education and technology. We'll discuss what's going on in the One Laptop Per Child universe, as well as what other education outreach communities are doing globally. The goal is to get folks together to discuss problems, collaborate, and find solutions together. If you're not familiar with Turtle Art, it's an application where students create art through programming. Turtle Art Day is a worldwide event happening throughout the month of October. Turtle Artists are coming together to teach each other and learn together. OLPC-SF is proud to be working with Sugar Labs[3] to put together this event here in San Francisco. OLPC-SF has opened proposal submission for the 2012 Community Summit held in San Francisco, California during the weekend of October 19th-21st.
