Thanks Devin; some comments.

"Composition and Meetings. The Corporation shall have an Advisory Board
whose members shall be appointed by corporate sponsors who pay annual fee
to be determined by the Board of Directors. The Advisory Board may meet at
any time and place its members choose."

I thought that the advisory board wasn't reserved for any sponsor.

Music Blocks was made to run from a browser and it currently fails to start
in sugar, there's an open issue for it
https://github.com/sugarlabs/musicblocks/issues/2579.

When you say "Couldn't make Develop do anything useful" I'm guessing you
mean you couldn't use the activity, the activity helps you create your own
activity or edit existing ones.

The Sugar Live Build followed the convention of the creator and most of the
activities
are the fructose set, you can also follow the same convention as it's
straightforward and easy.
I see that you've done it manually and I'd love to know what you did.

Yeah I'm guessing the redirect is a github convention as the repo the
activity was forked from was named
sugarlabs-calculate but the forked repo is calculate-activity.

[IAEP] Sugar Trisquel image Ready for testing.

2020-10-29 Thread Chihurumnaya Ibiam
Hi Everyone,

The sugar trisquel image has been released

by Ruben and it needs to be tested.

He'd said this earlier;

It took me a while to find a gap to work on the project, but I
got go a good point this week:
https://trisquel.info/en/trisquel-90-etiona-release-announcement-and-100-plans

That includes the "Trisquel On a Sugar Toast" v9 release, which comes
with Sugar 117 and further commits up to this weekend. I also packaged a
list of activities and included them in the image. I could only give it
basic testing (it took a lot of work to remove integration bugs and
dependencies), so I just know that they all run, but I don't know if
they work properly. I also found a bug in the panel, when you click on
the icons on the bottom right the ones to the left of the one clicked
disappear (I didn't consider it a release-blocker).

Please give this image a test:
https://cdimage.trisquel.info/trisquel-images/trisquel-sugar_9.0_amd64.iso

After testing we may need to produce another image. This also depends on
whether we want to change the list of included activities, or add any
other features to the image.

Cheers,
Ruben

I think we can also work on Efik, because from what i know that's where
there's a high number of XO's still in use in schools -- i think over a
thousand --, so it can also be included in the build.

Our current holdings in Nigerian localization can be found on our
 Pootle server.

 Yoruba
 https://translate.sugarlabs.org/yo/

 Igbo
 https://translate.sugarlabs.org/ibo/

The vast majority of these translations have been committed to their
respective Github repos, to the extent that new versions of those
activities have been released since those commits, the translations
 are now present in ASLO.

The core UI strings (sugar, sugar-toolkit-gtk3, OLPC_switch_laptop)
have also been committed, but to get them visible to users a new build
will be required. That would either be a new SOAS build or possibly a
custom build as proposed by Laura.

Hey Ty, we are attending as "Invited Speakers", there's a group of African
representatives attending and representing the continent and we're part of
that group, we are sharing our story -- what role scratch played in leading
us this far -- and Sugar Labs is part of that story, it'll be nice and good
to have guys from France attend to cut costs but we have the stage and they
don't, and we also have the opportunity to conduct an after event mini
workshop for people who want to know more about Sugar.

 I'm not for the idea:
 - It's possible than some OLPC France guys will be present there. They
could present Sugar/Sugarizer to the conference as well. And if they do,
the come from France - compared to Nigeria.
 - Are you sure to obtain a Visa for the conference ? French government
is sometimes hard about Visa delivery to avoid illegal immigration.

They want to share the responsibility with Sugar Labs, they already have a
budget for the event but every money is virtual at the moment, they are
working it out. So they'd love to pay half of the bill that's an estimated
1500euros($1681.12), but working the figures out the bill goes past that.

Hey James, since you're still maintaining fedora18, "sudo yum vlc" - any
activity- returns this error "Error cannot retrieve metalink for repository
fedora18/i386" , editing the *fedora.repo files in /etc/yum.repos.d/ and
changing
all "https" to "http" solves the problem.

I totally agree with "We should be able to speak about Sugar deployments as
we now speak about OLPC deployments. Sugar should be available for PCs and
mobile devices with xo being considered as one of the supported
environments".

I think we limited ourselves to an extent on OLPC deployments, we've tried
so far in making sugar available for different devices. Those companies are
not limited because canonical doesn't provide hardware devices neither does
redhat, but they've partnered with different companies that do.

Tony, if you've any plan as to expanding our reach apart from the one's
already listed, it'll be great if you tell us.

Best regards

Sugar has made me see things differently, it has given me an oppurtunity to
learn and to grow, not everyone in my area know about sugar and I'm lucky
to, this area of my life has never been the same since i met some persons
in sugar, i strive to learn more one of the reasons being to contribute to
sugar, sugar has given a platform where you can create whatever you want to
see(via sugar activities). Sugar has made learning interactive, i remember
back then in junior high, we used to learn french with the sugar platform
on our XO's. I love being part of sugar and I'll always be part of this
great organization.
