Re: [IAEP] [Sur] [SLOBS] meeting reminder

2021-01-05 Thread Claudia Urrea
Walter and all,

I just received confirmation about a meeting with the new minister of
education in Belize. I am in the PI of a three year project with the
government and I need to be there to present. The meeting is scheduled for
2:30 pm for 30 min. I will do my best to come back, but I can't miss this
meeting.

I apologize for the last minute change, but this is a significant 3 year
long project with a team of over 15 people from MIT.

I will keep you all posted.

Re: [IAEP] [Sugar-devel] New logo for Sugar Labs

2020-03-04 Thread Claudia Urrea
Thank you all for the hours and the effort to design these logos. This
somehow assumes we want to change the logo... perhaps we do, but it would
be great to hear the story behind each of the designs, so we can use it for
branding. We also need to understand the assumptions that were made
regarding the existing logo, what needs to be preserved and what needs to
change, etc. (I have been part of a re-branding process and we began with a
study of the current logo and detected opportunities for the design.)

Would it be ok for the groups to record a short video with those ideas?
Should the community vote on the existing logo vs. these designs?

Thanks again,

Claudia

I agree with you! It is important to get together during established
meetings, but it is as important to engage in concrete
tasks/responsibilities. I also agree that we should all inform the rest of
the board if we will be absent.

My suggestion is to revisit the schedule during our next board meeting.

Re: [IAEP] [SLOBS] Call to action for inactive SLOBs - attend the meetings or resign your seats

2018-11-16 Thread Claudia Urrea
I understand the concern, Alex. I am committed and interested in continuing
to serve, even if I have only participated 4 times this year.

When I agree to join the board again, the schedule had been established, so
it took couple of months for the schedule to adjust. That said, we should
look at alternative dates, given the members of the board. As much as I
plan in advance, I could be on a plane, plane may be delay, etc.

Happy to have a conversation.

Best,

Claudia

Jaskirat has worked hard to accommodate the concerns raised by several
of us regarding his proposed budget. I think it is with scope and compliant
 with SFC rules.

MOTION: Approve Jaskarit's attendance of the GSoC Meetup while he is

This is somewhat timely, so please try to respond ASAP.

 Hi SLOBs,

Jaskirat Singh is traveling to the GSoC mentor summit. Because he's
coming from India, he's asked us to prepay a number of expenses, which
we're happy to do as long as you approve.

First, he has requested an advance of 43,700.00 INR (about $625) to
cover expenses related to getting his visa and ground transportation in
 India. He provided this budget:

 VISA Fees - 11200 INR
Travelling agent and Consultant charges - 7000 INR
As i have to travel for the VISA Documentation and Interview to other
states so for that i have 2 dates consecutively ( VISA appointment letter
attached), So for that Hotel Charge for 1 night and 2 days - 7000 INR
 Meals for this purpose ( 2 days ) - 2000 INR (approx.)
Taxi fare from my location to the US Embassy - 4000 INR + toll and
 taxes ( approx ).
As per the rules VISA Documentation and Interview takes place at
different place and VISA Collection gets issued from the different location
which is the part of another state, so for that Taxi Fare - 2500 INR
Taxi fare from Home to Airport - 5000 INR + toll and taxes ( approx )
Taxi fare from airport to back Home - 5000 INR + toll and taxes (
 approx )

Please let us know whether or not you approve sending him money for
these expenses ahead of time. We'll still ask him to provide receipts
after the fact as required for all travel under our policies.

Note that, between this advance and the flight he's asking us to book,
Jaskirat's travel is likely to exceed $1,000, meaning some of it will be
paid out of Sugar's general fund and not covered by the money coming from
Google for GSoC. Please let us know what total travel budget you're
 willing to set for Jaskirat.

 Thank you,

 --

Agree with Tony. The vision is about the goal we are trying to accomplish
for children (and teachers) around the world, but the mechanism or
strategies the organization needs to put in place in order to get there.

Subject: Charla de Sugar Labs sobre Brecha de genero - Junio 12, 2014
To: learn...@lists.sugarlabs.org

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BSd2cy-QWk

1. Abrir la página: http://chat.sugarlabs.org
2. Escribir su nombre en NICKNAME
3. Seleccionar "Español" como idioma (LANGUAGE)
4. Seleccione el canal de chat 'sugar-meeting"
5. Haga clic en "Connect"

Los esperamos mañana!

Re: [IAEP] Tam Tam Mini Progress and User Manual Update

2012-03-07 Thread Claudia Urrea
In my experience, most OLPC programs have created a manual
like that.. either because they build one, or because they modify
and existing one.

I would love to see more documentation and materials that promove
development in Sugar... how to modify, how to create one from scratch,
how collaborate with the community, etc. I may be wrong.. but is the
Create you own Sugar Activity enough? what other things can
complemente that one?

Hi Bernie,

Thanks for your email. I am waiting on the visa... but I shouldn't
have any problems (I am still waiting for Cecilia to send a letter to
me).

I don't have the agenda yet, I am planning to work with the team of Formadores.

Yes. Bert is working on the new version of Scratch (hired by OLPC). I
think it is going to be ready very soon!

See you soon!

What about *SocialCalc*? I use it with measure to graph the data collected.
It can also be used to do any kind of budget, etc. People use it.. and they
are planning to release a new version with Spanish localization.

All my XOs have *VNC launcher*... I use it during workshops or demos, but I
couldn't find it in Sugar Labs.

Gerald.. good to hear from you!! I think your idea is great.. I imagine
something like learning plans JAM, like the ones developers host. I will
support you on that!!

I also agree with Edward, they don't need to work alone. The greatest
experience may be a combination on teachers and some volunteers who would be
willing to help them with technical/practical stuff... I am up for it!!
Where do you imagine this?

2009-10-19 Thread Claudia Urrea
I do believe that Ceibal presents a great opportunity to do great things. It
is a great opportunity... I believe we all want to be given the opportunity
to contribute.

The best way to get people to appropriate technology is to have them use it
in powerful ways. Yes, more documents are needed, but focusing only in XO
and Sugar, and expect students and children to get comfortable as a strategy
to get them to do the good things is not going to happen.

Teachers more than students need to good examples.. some have to do with
specific activities, and others with concepts that can be understood and
learned by using different activities. Creating examples that are always
part of a practical experience is good... even when introducing a particular
feature of the XO, or an activity.

Yama.. i like your article in olpcnews!

Gerald,

It is so good to see you!! How is the new year? I hope things are going well!!
Perhaps you can share some of your project ideas with the list (in case you
have not done it). I was thinking about the Cell project you did last year.

It is good to see you!!

We on this list are interested, and there is constant demand from
governments, NGOs, and other for data on OLPC deployments, ranging
 from costs to educational outcomes.

[IAEP] Request for new features for Measure

2009-08-14 Thread Claudia Urrea
Hello,

I have been working with the Measure activity for a while now, using
some un-expensive sensors (humidity, temperature, light, magnet, etc),
which can be connected to the Mic port. I would like to get two other
features added to measure.

1) Invert the curve of the reading of sensor: Some of the resistive sensors
are Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC), which means that the value
decrease in resistance when subjected to an increase in temperature,
humidity, etc. If teachers are working with young children, the value
may not be as important as the effect of the value rising at higher temp,
humidity, etc.

2) feedback when recording: While recording sensor value, there is no
feedback on the values that get recorded, and I often get questions from
teachers regarding this.. they asked me how they know that the values
that are saved into the .txt file are the values they see in Measure as they
never saw such values while playing with the sensors.

Please send me any questions... I hope these are things easy to
implement. I will be happy to give you some feedback and show you
some of the learning activities I have developed.

Thanks!

Claudia

Re: [IAEP] reporting bug and making recommendation on software

2009-08-09 Thread Claudia Urrea
Walter,

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, I meat Nicaraguans!

I have the regular OLPC channels, but I wanted to get other channels
of communications for Sugarlabs as people are now downloading software
from this site (things like Getsatisfied).

Thanks again!

Claudia

Re: [IAEP] Measure Log?

2009-07-13 Thread Claudia Urrea
Thanks Walter.

Yes, Wad patched measure based on my feedback, but we have not made it
available.

I run a few workshops in Colombia and Peru using sensors (microphone
port), measure, scratch and social calc and based on the feedback I
got, I would like to get couple of features implemented.

Before that happens.. I think we can share what we have.

Best,

Claudia
