I have been flashing about 30 drives/sd cards nowand I ordered 30
more.

And I got sponsoring for 20's sticks now for my project.

I checked to get branded sticks. but it more expensive. I is a lot
cheaper to buy cheapest sticks you can find and brand these manually.

To brand sticks these logo's could be used:

http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Image:Logo_alt_1.png

or for small sticks/sd card

http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/images/thumb/7/71/Logo_alt_2.png/240px-Logo_alt_2.png

Would it be an idea to support local sellers / supporters with stickers
to put on these stick/cards? In this way local group can have thier
branded sticks.

If this is a good idea I could make it proposal.

However I can imagian SugarLas wants it own branded/fabriked sticks to
keep thing more control. (I that case I would like order a couple.)

Just let me know,

2ct,

Marten

We will have to explore this further.

But I don't believe Sugar Labs is interested in controlling any thing:(

Instead, Sugar Labs would like to leverage the Sugar and Sugar Labs
brands as 'marks of quality' so that when our partners, like you, sell
products, their customers know they are getting quality educational
products.

This will require some degree of control to limit the mis-use of sugar
in substandard products.

2009-03-18 Thread Sean DALY
Marten, there's no problem for me if you want to put stickers on
sticks, just please be sure to use the official Sugar Labs logo
(http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Logo). Right now we prefer "Sugar Labs"
instead of "Sugar" as the former googles us much better than the
latter. Sugar Labs is a trademarked logo and some printing houses may
want to verify your right to reprint, I can of course help you with
that if the question is asked.

I'm ordering the first batch of 100 branded sticks for FOSSVT
(http://www.ncose.org) but I don't have an objection to local Labs and
partners doing their own sticks if the logo guidelines are respected.
if you have the possibility to send me one of the sticks, I'd
appreciate it, if not a good photo would be fine.

If you can, please choose sticks with LED activity indicators, this
will help users avoid losing data.

That said, this policy may change with the arrival of Sugar on a Stick
v1.0 in a few months, so it would be best to check back as we approach
that.

By the way, I'm looking for someone to help translate our press
release in Dutch, would you or anyone you know be able to help me with
that?

thanks a lot

That's a reasonable move. The trick w brands is to show that you
control the brands and logos...

This means that you are expected to set some rules and complain to
people (and eventuallysend C&D) who don't follow them.

So now, from the dept of out-of-the-box-ideas:

One of the rules may be: use of logos A, C and B is restricted. Logo D
is unrestricted, redistributable, etc for use in community efforts
without having to ask for permission.

Would that help? Unrestricted logos saying "SugarLabs::Community" or
"Friend of SugarLabs"?

cheers,

And to avoid problems. Google for "Europeans Orders OpenBSD" to see how
painfull it can get. The sooner there are clear rules the better it is.

Would it help to have:
- possibility resell offical sugar sticks (in larger batches)
- local versions (with for example Dutch language and password) preset
- expectations of donations to:
 - SugarLabs
 - Local projects
- Clear expentations of:
 - certified partners
 - community partners

FYI.My last actions resulted in funding to give 30 sticks to kids in the
media wiki project.

I gues it would be some kind "grey branding".

A few months ago the oversight board decided to adopt the same trademark
policy of the Wikimedia Foundation:

  http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Logo_and_trademark_policy

I'm afraid our intentions weren't properly advertised in the wiki, but
until we revise our trademark policy again, people can assume they have
these rights on the Sugar Labs logo assets.
