Untuk menyongsong Akhir tahun 2016 , Ikatan Ahli Geologi Indonesia (IAGI)
berkeinginan untuk memutar film documenter dari Tokoh Geologi yaitu *Bapak
Van Bemmelen*./ *Reinout Willem van Bemmelen, *lahir di Batavia pada
tanggal 14 April 1904 dan wafat di Unterpirkach (Austria) pada tanggal 19
November 1983. Masa kecilnya dihabiskan di Hindia Belanda, dan pada usia 17
tahun dia berangkat ke Belanda untuk menuntut ilmu di Universitas Delft.
Van Bemmelen menyelesaikan studinya pada tahun 1927 dengan meraih gelar
doktor melalui disertasinya yang berjudul Bijdrage tot de Geologie der
Betische Ketens in de provincie Granada (Contribution to the Geology of
Baetic chains in Granada province). Setelah itu ia kembali ke Indonesia
untuk melakukan berbagai penelitian geologi dan mengalami masa sulit pada
masa penjajahan Jepang.
