Re: ISPF abendS138 reas2470003

2012-03-16 Thread Peter Relson
According to the MVS System Codes book, abend 138 has no reason codes.
If ISPF is reporting that there is one, it is perhaps reporting on the
register 15 value when the abend was issued which is not the same as a
reason code, and has no documented value.

Subject: Hypothetical Performance Question

Hi,

A hypothetical question but first the setting: A customer has two jobs auto-
submitted within five minutes of each other. Job 1 grabs the dozen or so data
sets and executes, leaving Job 2 with a formal waiting for data sets
situation. Obviously, when Job 1 finishes, Job 2 actually starts. Now the
question: While Job 2 is queued up waiting for the data sets, is there any
appreciable use of CPU by z/OS or JESx services to continually check to see if
the data sets are free, yet? In this case, Job 1 runs for almost 4 hours so
Allocation services is checked at least occasionally. I'm not interested in
doing
a charge-back, just wondering if there's any real cpu usage.

Since this cropped up, the customer has changed the job schedule to submit
Job 2 after Job 1 completes but the mind wonders. Thanks.

Kent

Secret Service Guide

2012-03-16 Thread R.S.

I just got the following publication:

zEnterprise 196
Service Guide
GC28-6892-02

This publication is NOT present on ResourceLink, there is no clue about
it's existence. Other pubs like Installation Manual are present on the
ResourceLink. It looks like some secret... nevermind. The publication is
IMHO *VERY USEFUL*!

I found the following information
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=pub1gc28686604
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=pub1gc28685303

So it looks the similar guides exist for z10 and z9 but the links for
download are dead.

Now the question:
Q1. How can I download Service Guied for z10, z9 nd maybe older models?
Q2. Are there any other secret manuals for those machines? (of course
not those from ResourceLink).

For the OSAINFO command, I forgot to add that you need to tell it what
interface you want the info on.

   DISPLAY TCPIP,,OSAINFO,INTFName_= intf_name

I solve this problem by getting READ access to the Console profile in RACF
Class TSOAUTH.
Then you can establish an interactive console session as seen in the Rexx
exec below, issue the command,
and write the results to a dataset. This exec creates and displays a
temporary file
with Library management calls but that's easily changed to create a
permanent file in batch JCL.

FTP the NPIV file off the CEC SE to my PC

2012-03-16 Thread J Ellis
I have CEC's in different parts of the country that I need to get the NPIV
WWPN's for the FCP channels from. Currently I have a USB Stick in the HMC, have
an operator go in to the HMC on site, pull the FCP/WWPN file off to the USB
Stick, then have them email me the file. The problem I'm told is because my
CEC/SE's are not on the network.
Has anyone plugged their SE's into the company network ? or, is there a way to
get that file off the SE and onto my laptop remotely tha I have missed ?
the name of the file on the se is : fcpWwpn.csv

Re: COBOL compiler conflict - MSGEXIT vs. dynamic compiler invocation

2012-03-16 Thread David de Jongh
I found the answer - I had based my code on the sample message exit in the
COBOL user's guide, which has a STOP RUN when the CLOSE status code is
passed.  This causes the RTEREUS environment to be cleaned up, and control
returned to the OS.  I changed it to CONTINUE, which drops through to the
GOBACK.  Control is now returned to the compiler, and thence to my shell
program and all is wonderful.

which allowed me to do something I had griped about on the SHARE
requirements board - detect the FIPS message that flags incorrect INDEX.
usage, i.e. using an index that isn't associated with the array you're
referencing. I wrote a MSGEXIT program, also in COBOL. It, too, works just
fine.

The problem is, these two things don't work together. The reformatter
invokes the compiler program, the compiler runs to completion, but (a)
there's no output file, either in TEMPFILE DD (the SYSPRINT DD override) or
in SYSPRINT DD itself.

I really don't want to rewrite the reformatter as a PRTEXIT, but it's
looking like that's my only option.

Has anyone else tried this, or have any insights?

Re: Secret Service Guide

2012-03-16 Thread R.S.

David,
Yes, I used google, spent much time on it. Then asked on the forum.
Now I've also tried www.archive.org, maybe I can't use this website, but
I found nothing.

My wife advised me to browse our wardrobe, do you think it's good idea?
;-)

More seriously, to all: maybe someone has any of the publications on CD
and he/she's willing to share?

Have you tried just Googling the manual numbers?

 Thank you, I appreciate it.
 I just downloaded it.

I also found doc number for older machines:
 z9 EC Service Guide GC28-6841
 z9 BC Service Guide GC28-6853
 z990 Service Guide G229-9039
 z900 Service Guide G229-9027

I also found z9EC Service Guide in hardcopy (still looking for
sofcopy).

So, I'm still looking for Guides for z990, z900 and maybe older

I also revealed that the publications usually
were delivered on CD/DVD with the CPC.

Re: Secret Service Guide

2012-03-16 Thread Farley, Peter x23353
The wayback machine only has 147 IBM pages, all from 2010, with the link
address that appears on the header pages but has no similar IBM pages before
that, and nothing at all for the four manual numbers that the OP listed.

But thanks for the suggestion.
