Remote printers are Drained

2011-02-02 Thread Chokalingam Thangavelu
Hi,

We have got many remote printers are configured to mainframe via TCPIP
address.

Fort the past 2 weeks we are getting lot of cases that these printers
are becoming DRAINED after printing the reports instead of becoming
INACTIVE.
So we need manually restart the printers each time.

Please let me know what could have gone wrong.

Thangavelu

We are using PSF software to print mainframe reports to the remote
printers.

The printers will become DRAINED after printing the reports and NETVIEW
automation will restart the printers.

But some printers are not getting restarted by NETVIEW during morning
hours and rest of the time its working fine.

With what? Are you using a output writer scraping data from JES2/3 or is

NETVIEW automation (I assume that you are using IBM SA) is probably
chaining off some message in the message table.
You need to look at the messages that are being trapped and compare them
to
The messages that are being sent to the console at the time the printers
are DRAINED.
There may be some other problems with SA which is why it is not
restarting the printers -
Like timers getting deleted, auotops in use, clist errors, etc.
You need to check the Netview logs for any errors
at the time the DRAIN occurs to see why the processing is not getting
done.

Sometimes it looks like Netview issues the command but MVS never gets it

Chokalingam Thangavelu

I would have thought that if this was *urgent*, you would have responded
to
my last post explaining how you had resolved the problem or posting your

ICC "session" parameters.

Some time ago I assisted with an ICC problem in the VSE-L list. It was
also a
case of not being able to reconnect the TN3270E client after a
disconnection.
No error messages were provided so I can't be sure the problem was the
same
as yours. I offered this suggestion to use the "Drop Session" function
as
described in the "System z9 and Eserver zSeries z890 and z990 Open
Systems
Adapter-Express Integrated Console Controller User's Guide" manual in
Chapter
3, "Controlling and Configuring an OSA-ICC" under "Drop Session":

Drop session

The Drop session panel is used to drop a session from an OSA-ICC. You
can
use this panel if you need to drop a session because you can't get to a
PC or
you have a bad connection.

If you selected auto-reconnect during the customization of your session,
the
option will automatically reconnect your session after you drop it.

The drop utility requires a session index from the session table number
to
identify which session to drop.

The drop session panel requires the following input:

- Session index: The index from the session table.

Assuming the TN3270E negotiation problem is caused by a status mismatch,

this may help deal with your problem.

I may as well mention that I offered the suggestion in the VSE-L thread
to use
the Defer Host Disconnect (DHD) option "enable with no timeout for
deferment" as a way to ensure that the z/OS console remained active as
long
as the ICC was active - and, I expect, following the first use of the
TN3270E
client (your PCOMM). Thus the z/OS console will remain active even while
the
TN3270E client disconnects and reconnects. This idea was very much
appreciated by a number of subscribers to the VSE-L list for their VSE
system
consoles.

ESQA 93%
 SQA 25%
 CSA 19%

first off ESQA (if it gets full) will overflow into ECSA

looking at your display, you currently have PLENTY of ECSA available.

You could probably increase your ESQA by a little if you want to.

What are your current parameters (both) in IEASYS* for SQA AND CSA?

lastly, when was the last time you IPLed ?

and fyi, if this is z/OS 1.11 or above, you need to take this note into
account. (from the z/OS migration manual)

Description: In z/OS V1R11, each address space requires 1608 bytes of
additional 31-bit Extended System Queue Area (ESQA) storage. The
additional ESQA storage is allocated at address space create time and
freed at address space termination time. Therefore, additional ESQA is
only required for the typical peak number of active address spaces.

it's got to be sms managed if you want it larger than 4 GB, but I'm
curious why you have a 4 GB root, my 1.12 root still fits within a
"mod 3" size. (although just barely).

Perhaps you might want to look at sms management for this, or splitting
some directories into their own separate files.

GIMUNZIP failure

2009-10-27 Thread Chokalingam Thangavelu
Hi,

I have downloaded SMPPTFIN and SMPHOLD PAX file from ShopZseries which
contains PTFS required for measuring ZIIP workload along with GIMPAF.XML
and GIMPAF.XSL to my workstation then FTP to the HFS directory in OMVS
in Binary format. I have followed the above method as our firewall is
protected and am doing this first time.

I am getting below error message when I run GIMUNZIP job.

GIM49001S ** ARCHIVE smpptfin/s0001.shopz.s8788653.smpmcs.pax.Z COULD
NOT BE FOUND WITHIN THE DIRECTORY NAMED ON THE
 SMPDIR DD STATEMENT.

Please let me know what could be the reason for the failure and I am
thinking that I have uploaded GIMPAF.XML and GIMPAF.XSL files in Binary
format along with other package files. If this is wrong then let me know
what mode I should use while FTPing these files into OMVS.

Binary is correct for transfers both from ShopZ and to HFS directory.
But that's not what the message says is the problem

Do
ls -al

... of the HFS directory "NAMED ON THE SMPDIR DD STATEMENT" and verify
that the file named in the message is present.

But why bother with GIMUNZIP? You should be able to do RECEIVE FROMNTS
directly.

Receving PTFs for measuring workload that can be processed by ZIIP engine

2009-11-10 Thread Chokalingam Thangavelu
We are planning to do a assessment that requires installation of this
FMID JBB772S so that from the SMF Records we can find out how much of
our current general processor workload can be processed by specialty

We have found out that FMID JBB772S requires to enable that but most of
PTFs associated with FMID JBB772S are not received due to NO APPLICABLE

Have you received the function yet? If you haven't that would explain
why the associated PTF's won't be received.

You need to receive the FMIDs for the version of software you are running.

If you have HBB7730 you do not do HBB7740, HBB7750; unless you are running all
those different releases of z/OS.

I would just receive the JBB772S and see if it goes in.

What version of z/OS will this be for???

Go look at Cheryl Watson's Hot Flashes
http://www.watsonwalker.com/PR070216.pdf

It will help you with this process.

99.% of the time, the key information in the message is the REASON
CODE. You can easily find out what that means by using the command TSO
BPXMTEXT ... . With the ... replaced by the reason code. In your case,
0549010C. On my z/OS 1.10 system, I get the response:

BPXFSLNK 07/08/07
JRLnkAcrossFilesets: The service tried to link across file systems

Action: Reissue the request, specifying a new pathname that is within
the same
file system as the existing pathname.

This indicates that SMP/E is trying to create what is called a "hard
link". For those new to UNIX, this is confusing because, in UNIX,
multiple file names can refer to the same physical data. But a "hard
link" cannot span from one filesystem to another. Unless I am mistaken
(and it is definately possible!), the original file was called

/Service/usr/lib/IBM/IWMA3HEW

the new name, which should refer to the same physical data is supposed
to be:

/Service/usr/lib/IBM/../ewlmplat.x

which simplifies to:

/Service/usr/lib/ewlmplat.x

So now the question is: Is /Service/usr/lib in the same filesystem as
/Service/usr/lib/IBM ? I would think so, but I don't know. The simpliest
way to tell is to go into TSO OMVS and issue the commands:

cd /Service/usr/lib
df .
cd IBM
df .

The output from the two "df ." commands should be identical. I don't
have this set up on my system right now, but the output would look
something like:

Mounted on FilesystemAvail/TotalFiles
Status
/home1000 (TSSPN.LIH1.HOME1000) 3064/2523168 4294960585
Available

Basically, make sure that both "df ." outputs have the same path under
"Mounted on" and the same DSN under "Filesystem". If not, then the SMP/E
environment is not set up properly.

Z/OS Maintanance

Hi,

Please let me know what would be the best maintenance method for Z/OS
and from the below 2 options.

1. Receive and apply RSU maintenance

2. Receive Enhanced HOLDDATA (Monthly/Quarterly) and run ERRSYSMOD
report to find out the missing patches and apply those patches.

3. Both of the above
