RMF VSAM Datasets
Hello, Is it possible to load RMF records (SMF type 7x) that are in a VBS dataset to a RMF vsam file so I can use the RMF monitor to look for some info? 3278 device Hardware support
Hi, Does Z/OS 1.8 and above still support the 3278 device type and is only the hardware support for the real physical 3278's dropped? Urgent reply needed
Gents, Would appreciate if someone can help me out: If I specify PRIV in the PPT. Does this mean I bypass RACF checking? I have a discussion where someone claims the statement above but in my opinion he is confused with PRIVILGED(YES¦NO) on the RACF RDEFINE command. What does PRIV in the PPT exactly does? -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
Re: Urgent reply needed
{PRIV } {NOPRIV} The program specified on PGMNAME is privileged (PRIV), or not privileged (NOPRIV). A task marked PRIV is put in the SYSSTC service class if it is not explicitly classified in the WLM classification rules. Default: NOPRIV But no explanation if it has something to do with RACF checking yes/no -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
Re: Urgent reply needed
Thanks for the reply Mark. But the matter of things here is in fact the following: Does PRIV in the PPT have any security impact??? Will it bypass RACF when sepcifying PRIV? Re: 9840C allocations on z/OS 1.7
Oops, missed that one. If they are stan-alone there is no need for HSC or SMC. The only option is to work with esoterics as for any other stand-alone tape drive. Re: 9840C allocations on z/OS 1.7
Chris, The difference between the IBM ATL and the STK is that the IBM stuff is SMS managed. So you have several options: 1) Code a different esotheric in the JCL for 9840C devices and select devices that way. 2) If you do not want to adapt the JCL's you have to make sure that the datasets you want to route to 9840C are not SMS managed. So they can't get a dataclas assigned. 3) In order to proceed you can either: - code up a tapereq that routes the data to the STK managed 9840C - uses the SMC SMS interface. Basically what happens is that after that the IBM code called the ACS routines and found no match because the dataset is not supposed to be SMS managed the SMC code calls the ACS routines with an environment of STK1. You can then use the ACS routines to substitute the esotheric in the JCL with and other esotheric that would only contain the 9840C devices. Be aware the dataset will not become SMS managed, we'll just use the ACS routines to do our stuff. All this is described in the SMC administrator guide that you can get from the support site. RMF definition of DASD RATE
Hi, Looking into some RMF reports generated with the spreadsheet reporter. Can someone give me a clear definition of what is 'DASD RATE' and in what measurement it is expressed. z series channel commands
Hi, Any idea where i can find the I/O command codes esp. the magnetic tape channel commands? Re: z series channel commands
Thx, I still have an old Enterprise Systems Architecture/390 Reference Summary that has all the codes in it. But when I went on the web and check the Z/series architecture reference summary it seems that these chapters (Magnetic tape channel commands and DASD channel commands) have disappeared. -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html

User experiences TAPE/COPY
Hi, Is there anyone out there who wants to share their experience with OPENTECH's TAPE/COPY program? I'm especially interested in media conversion (3490 - 3590) done with the product. Any experiences with the interfaces to CA-1, CA-DISK, ... Performance compared to other products, ... Issues, problems,... CA-DISK question
Folks, I need some help with an older version of CA-DISK 9.0.2. The client needs to convert some old 3480 CA-DISK backups to some higher capacity media. They want to keep the CA-DISK environment. For the moment I see 2 options. 1) use XCOPY to copy all backup tape volumes onto higher capacity media. Will XCOPY stack the old files onto the new volume? Can someone explain me how it works. 2) I use COPYCAT to stack the old 3480 onto the new tapes and run the the archive rebuild util to create a new files dataset. But will this work as well for the backups? Please some advise, Thx, Lieven -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
