VSAM dataset - when was it last accessed??
Hi, Apart from SMF records, is there some way of determining when a VSAM dataset was last accessed?? 3270 Emulator Attachmate Extra + CA-Solve
Hi, We have a problem with Attachmate Extra's ability to handle spaces, but the problem only happens when cutting and pasting text in the CA problem management tool called SOLVE. Here is what happens:- I'll copy some text (from inside SOLVE), and then paste it, and all of the spaces disappear and the words will all be scrunched together. Hence you need to waste time spacing them all out (again). However, Attachmate Extra works just fine when working inside TSO/ISPF, or in any of our other mainframe applications (ie: CICS, IMS, etc). The spaces are preserved (as is to be expected). I've tried changing the Edit Setting for the Cut/Clear Filler option, to say Replace with spaces, and it does not make any difference. However, when we use a different 3270 Emulator, then there is no problem. Emulators which do not have this problem include IBM eNetwork Personal Communications, and also Host on Demand. Sorry, but I cannot say what version Extra we're running, as I'm posting this message from home and using the IBM emulator, not Extra. Does anyone have any idea what's going wrong with EXTRA, and how perhaps to fix this (time-wasting) problem?? All suggestions appreciated. Thanks very much. -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
Re: 3270 Emulator Attachmate Extra + CA-Solve
Shmuel, Thanks for your suggestions. I'll follow up with our VTAM guy next week, and ask for his help. As for CA's response, the admin person in our company who looks after CA- Solve, tells me, I have approached CA several times and they do not have this problem because they use a different emulation package to us. It's crazy, especially since we have hundreds of people being affected by this problem. -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
Re: 3270 Emulator Attachmate Extra + CA-Solve
Binyamin, When we cut from CA-Solve, then paste into Notepad, and then cut and paste back into CA-Solve, then there is no problem. It works fine. Re: ICF Catalog with lots of redundant datasets
Hi Ron, Thanks for your excellent explanation. (PS: I attended one of your VSAM courses in Wellington, New Zealand, back in the early 90s). Just to elaborate on the lots of redundant datasets and HLQ's... for example, we have a HLQ called BUS, and approx 9000 BUS.* datasets of which about 95% of them have been migrated to tape. The remaining 5% which are still being used are because people have been to lazy(?) to change a few remaining jobs to use a different HLQ. We could safely change these 5% remaining jobs, and then delete all BUS.* datasets. However, seeing as this has not been done, would this have much of an overhead performance impact on the Catalog / CAS?? Could you please elaborate on this finer detail? ICF Catalog with lots of redundant datasets
Hi all, If we have lots of redundant datasets on the machine, and many HLQ (high level qualifiers) which could (also) be completely removed, but have not been removed / cleaned up, is this likely to have much of a performance degradation affect on the Catalog / CAS. Easytrieve DLI/IMS and Secondary Indexes
Has anyone ever managed to get an Easytrieve DLI/IMS program to issue a DLI call using an SSA which specifies that it wants to use Secondary Index? The SSA is correct, and so is the DBD/PSB, as it works perfectly in COBOL. Easytrieve expects you to list (ie: code in pgm) all of the Segments you intend on using, however it's not clear how you should specifically code the XDFLD (from the DBD). The program is getting an AC. All other DLI/IMS access is fine, but the call to the Secondary Index is not working. Re: Easytrieve DLI/IMS and Secondary Indexes
Hi all, Please ignore this question. I think the problem lies elsewhere, and am still busy trying to isolate it.
